Delays to Sligo and Maynooth Services - Mon 5th - Thurs 8th July by Corporate Communications

Please note that there may be a delay of 25 to 35 minutes on all Sligo and Maynooth services from Monday 5th to Thursday 8th July.
This is due to commissioning work on the Dunboyne rail line.

Iarnród Éireann regret any inconvenience this may cause.

Hopefully it will not affect the peak time services too much.

Hopefully there will be no hassle it will be intresting to see. Looking at the bigger picture with the new line to Dunboyne in the near future are there going to be changes to the timetable as in loosing a commuter train to an intercity service or will there be a reduction in service i.e 5:45 train starting from Mullingar instead of Longford.

Why would they remove a commuter service from Longford?

The plan for dunboyne is for a hourly service offpeak and half hourly service peak to be provided. I cant see why Longford train at 17:15+18:18 will survive when the new line opens. I would see the 18:00 service not returning to Dublin after it has completed it journey. I not up to speed on the state of affairs on the Intercity trains that are out of service but my opinion is that there will be a new Intercity service from Sligo at 5am replacing the commuter railcar currently used and the 5:45 ex Longford may become the 06:00 from Mullingar so that the train will be available for use in heavier loadind areas

These potential delays are to do with the conversion of level crossings between Mullingar and Edgeworthstown to automatic operation. The reference to possible delays to Maynooth services is due to possible knock-on effects of delays to Sligo/Longford trains.

Firstly there are no spare Intercity sets available, so I don't see how the Sligo trains will change.

While I would be inclined to agree that the 1817 should be curtailed at perhaps Enfield and then used to do a late train to Mullingar, I'm not sure that tinkering around with morning trains would work. Whatever about moving trains forward, I would imagine that people in Longford and Edgeworthstown would not be too pleased to learn that the 0545 was being cancelled as per your suggestion to be replaced by a train 15 minutes later?

Where incidentally has that service pattern on Dunboyne been stated? I haven't seen a confirmed service pattern published anywhere yet, rather a vague statement regarding proposed services.

No delays this morning - thankfully... Although that said i took an earlier train than usual just incase and it wasn't as full as usual.

Fingers crossed its all running ok this evening.

RE: the 5:45 train from longford.. i commute from longford and would be in favour of scrapping both that one and the 6:15 and having a 6am train that goes to maynooth and then nonstop to connolly.

And while we on it, removing one of the 5:15/6:18 trains and running a later train in the evening...

+1. All passengers from Longford have a two hour journey ahead of them each morning v's 1hr 45min with the intercity service. The journey cannot be that appealing to Longford passengers espically. The railcar is more benefical in the shorter loop and journeys up to 1hr. If I am not mistaken I sure I see the 22k Intercity service used in the second train from Maynooth each weekday morning. This train would be more benefical sent back to Longford and bring more passengers in and give the morning service a welcome boost. Athlone has an Intercity train at 5:15 each morning

The set on Maynooth in the mornings is a temporary arrangement due to the overnight works on the Rosslare line.

That should hopefully end in due course.

Is this the set that is used for the 07:30 ex connolly to Rosslare

No - the 22k set that works the 0730 Connolly to Rosslare works the 0530 Connolly/Maynooth and the 0620 Maynooth/Pearse.

The second 22k set that you've spotted on the 0640 ex-Maynooth should be working the 0555 ex-Gorey, but that train is currently being worked by a 29K on Tuesdays to Fridays as the set from the previous night stays over in Gorey. As I say this is temporary until the overnight works are concluded.
