its called an ISO adaptor and they can be found for 20-30 euro , considering how inbuilt your previous stereo is i would say 99% chance one is required

You can get one on eBay for less than €10.

I have a mazda6 03 and in 05 i got an xlink for it because i wanted to connect an ipod to the radio and it said it also charges the ipod bought it and it would'nt work after a lot of searching on the web i found out the port at the back of the radio is not switched on.This is what you have to do, http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-8/1057120/37277693-93744378dd.jpg and yes you have to take the radio and a/c panel out unscrew the radio from the panel and then take the radio apart, got a friend to do the circuit L716 and put the whole lot back together its a lot of work but worth it.Also got a cradle for it so it is fitted like a phone kit so i can change the songs when i'm driving.I can also plug in an mp3 player or usb it has 3 connections and it charges the ipod as well.

    Learn something new every day!

I honestly resided to the fact that you couldn't change the radios in these cars!

I was thinking of getting one of these myself :

    http://www.xcarlink.co.uk/product.php?productid=8&cat=1&page=1

80Stg + delivery so not much cheaper than what the OP posted but looks like a useful piece of kit. Never heard of having to short out the L716 to get it to work, but I could probably get a 0ohm resistor somewhere. Might just buy it and see if it works without shorting.....

The floating dash (I think that's what they call it) means that you've feck all places to put your after market radio! I think the radio module in the Volvo's are under the seat or somewhere like that.

Aye, in the S40 the panel is probably an inch or so thick. Could do what the father did in his vintage car, leave the old radio there and put the new in the glove box :P
