    Hi,
I am looking for a solution to monitoring our water tank which is 1 mile from our house.

Currently if there is a problem we do not know about it until all the water is gone. We are looking for a solution which when the water level in the tank goes down to half way (tank is 4 foot deep with open top) that an SMS/text message is sent to me indicating the problem.
There is also no power at the tank so a solar solution would be good as well to run the unit.
any ideas on a package would be great.
    An example would be this:

got a price for a unit off http://www.omniinstruments.co.uk/products/product/moredetails/omnitext.id1033.html and have to say the idea is simple.
just a float switch connected to a GSM unit which has up to a 2 year battery life and can be recharged. just thought i would update this incase someone else was thinking of a similar idea.
There are a few ways to achieve the monitoring system you are looking for. The cheapest and simplest is to use our OmniText-TDP4 and a simple float switch. The float switch would need to be positioned at the half way point on the tank and would complete a circuit when the tank is below half way and trigger the OmniText to send you a warning message. If you find halfway is alarming too often, you can simply reposition the switch lower down the tank.

There is no need for a solar panel to power this unit as it has an internal rechargeable battery that will probably last as much as two years in your application before requiring a recharge, and the system will send you a warning message once the battery is getting low. How long the battery will last between charging depends on the settings and if the unit is in alarm or not.

Delivery lead time is about 2-3 days for the system integration and programming.
