Hi all, just need some advice. Myself and 5 of my mates are thinking of going skiing to andorra next february on a lads hol for a week. We are thinking of going to a place called Arinsal in Andorra. We are planning on staying in the St. Gothard hotel. None of us have skiied before and we're looking for somewhere that has decent nightlife.

Has anyone ever stayed in Arinsal or the St.Gothard hotel. Just wondering is it any good and would it be worth going to? Any help would be appreciated.

woodzie, you'll likely get a good response if you start a thread over in winter sports http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=881

Only been to Andora once (Pas de la Casa) and it was a party place - horrific 4.5 hour transfer from the airport though.

Stayed in the st gothard a couple of years ago.

4 hour transfer ( maybe slightly less) from Barcelona (ryanair version). Its closer than actual Barcelona airport. If booking Ryanair remember they give a lower baggage allowance versus Aer Lingus. It used to be worse but they opened a new road. Get a few beers for the bus and its grand. In my opinion with a couple of lads the bus flys by.

Hotel is grand. Basic, clean easy walking distance to lift (5-10 minutes wearing boots), but they also provided a bus to the lift. Buffet Dinner was included. Food was ok, but you could eat as much as you like which is what you want some evenings. Cheap enough to eat out when you get fed up with the food in the hotel. There was an extra charge to use the sauna area (think there was a jacuzzi). Didn't pay so not sure if it was any good.

Alcohol is cheap in the town (tax free). One place had 1 euro beer during football. Night life is all pubs with music. Was busy enough, we had no complaints. It all depends on the week you go. Can't remember seeing night clubs but if you want to stay up till 3 every morning, you won't enjoy your skiing/boarding as much the next day.

Slopes are good for beginners. Its mainly beginners there. More advanced people will get a gondola over to pal (all linked up)

I'll leave the ski vs boarding to a different thread.

Summary- Good for first time trip.
