ill agree with you there, but would it not be better to offer it for vans as well as that would help get a lot of the older vans off the road put anyone that has a 10 year old van would get 1,500 for it so it makes sense to buy new

It's all to do with VRT really. There's always an incentive with commercials for business as you don't pay VRT on a van, just a fixed charge of €50. This could also be interpreted as the government are not making enough tax's from you on vans to help the environment!

but not everyone who has a van has a business so they pay vrt, what options are available to these people in relation to scrappage?none by the looks of it

Nobody that buys a van pays vrt. If it's classed as a commercial you only have to pay €50. No Vat number etc needed. Not sure the exact reason or logic behind this but would imagine its due to the fact vans are general used with business needs and employment, not recreational uses. Why would anybody want a van for a non practical use?

As Shanemc says, theres only €50 VRT on vans. The scrappage scheme is a VRT reduction, so theres nothing to reduce on the vans anyway.

On a car that attracts less than €1500 VRT in the first place the scrappage scheme will only reduce the price by the VRT amount (say €900 for instance) not the full €1500.
