    Hi All,
I got sky hd last year and on the initial installation box had to have software update for it to work,by pressing the back button.
Now,i always keep my box plugged in but if i need to go away for a few days i unplug but need to do the back button thing again.
Today i went out for 5 hours and decided to unplug box,on return turned it on as normal without doing the backup and nothing happened.
Did the backup and it worked for 3-4 mins then screen went green blue(this could be the samsung no signal screen, not sure)
After 2 times of unpluging, standing 1 min it seems to be working.

Any idea what could be causing this and why does pressing the backup button make it work?
Any ideas what is happening?I will be contacting the local satellite company that did it as sky will not do anything as i didnt get it from them though they are happy to take the subscriptions.

    Regards,

    Kieran

No need to unplug the box as it will automatically go into standby. If you insist on plugging it out regularly it's important that you switch off the box ie. turn it to standby and wait until hard drive has stopped spinning before you unplug it to stop damage to the drive.Hope you don't have stuff series linked for when you're out of the house-very hard to record when box is unplugged:D

    Hi Zerks,
Everything you said had been done, though i cannot believe it wont work when unplugged!!:D

Seriously, does anyone know why what is happening, happens?

Would a faulty hard drive cause this problem?

Could be faulty drive-it can be reformatted by plugging out, holding down left and right buttons on box when plugging back in.CAREFUL BECAUSE THIS WIPES YOUR RECORDINGS. then go to settings and press 0 1 Select to do a sky+ rebuild. If this doesn't work sounds like the drive is shagged. If you got it from a retailer instead of direct from sky give them a shout,no fee to replace it if box is under warranty.
