Problem with J1 Social Security Number

Hey, I've been over in New York on a J1 for a month now. I applied for my social security number, got the card in the post and have found a job. My employer seems to be having problems with the number though, the social security office is telling him the numbers "no good". The same thing seems to be happening with my friends one, she had a job offer which has been taken away now due to problems during the background check which is all to do with the new social security number. Has this ever happened to anyone else over here?

That's strange, have you been in touch with your sponsoring company about this?

What jobs are you both working in? Also, what does your social security card say, it should say something about temporary work or something. Did you apply to the SSA office on 5th and Broadway?
