    Hiya,

Does anyone know of a golf course offering reasonably priced memberships.
Would also be interested if the club has access to gym and pool etc...

I'm based in Dublin Southside but would be willing to travel (within reason)

Also on another note... I would be bringing in 3 new members with myself, so would they do discounts on multiple memberships?

    Thanks in advance
    :D

Hmm....Westmanstown (near Lucan/Clonsilla) is the only club I can think of that offer pool and gym access with golf membership. Link

Glencullen Golf Club is a very good 9 hole course. The greens are so fast. Use different tees for back nine. Membership is fairly cheap as well.

Citywest have both a gym and a pool. I'm not sure if both are included in the golf membership though.

Most golf clubs on the southside of the city are old establised clubs and difficult to get in to nunless you go towards Wickow or beyone Tallaght. You could try Edmondstown near Rathfarnham. I don't think you need to be nominated, seconded etc. My advice would be to wait till towards the Autumn / Winter. Many clubs come out with membership deals around that time for the following year and you could get a few extra months thrown into the bargain.

I'm fairly sure you do / did.

I lived across the road from Edmondstown. Knew a good few of the members and the pro pretty well and played there a lot when on school holidays. Vaguely remember hearing you had to be sponsored/nominated to become a member. Things could have changed over the last 5 years since I was there.

Lovely course and club though it must be said. I always enjoyed it.

I used to be a member there, great little track and superb membership but fast greens never

Interesting, Im looking into this too as Im getting back into Golf I need regular games and indeed a GUI handicap in time..

I live in Central Dublin and don't drive, so things are a bit more complex for me. But I must keep looking and sort something out :)

Central dublin is not that exact, but elm green do great options for casual golfers, from reduced pay and play to full green fees, all their offers include gui.

Any link to that article? Did a quick search on the SBP website but couldn't find it.

If there's no link, could someone please list the courses in Cork that have dropped their membership? I'm looking to join somewhere at the moment. Cheers.

You can lease membership in Carton House for €2,500. Think it's another €500 or so if you want to use the Pool/Spa.

I dont think you could call 2500 a year reasonable. Its a premier course with a premier price. OP could have portmarnock links (hotel) for that price.

I suppose the value now is that you don't have to pay any joining fee. Think the joining fee to Carton was €40,000 at the height of the boom.

Oh, i know.Comparatively it is super value, but When op says reasonable I'd only imagine its closer to the grand mark.

Citywest might be your best bet OP.

Isn't it closing though to be turned into a 'super course'?

Merging them alright. You could be right though in waiting to see the new membership offers when it finishes. It did have cheap subs though, plus gym/pool for a few hundred extra.
Personally op, if you can drop the pool requirement, you'll get a lot better course for your money.

    €40000 joining fee.... outrageous...

I think the citywest option of €1100 + €400 for gym is the best out there at the moment. Hopefully i will be able to bargain with them as I think there will be 4 or 5 of us signing up to it.

I've played the course a couple of times and its quite nice...

I'm not really keen on the 9 hole courses (played as 18) bit boring imo but i do appreciate the suggestions. ;)

@ Jimdagym: What courses would you rate better ? I ask cos I have only played a few times since i left SA and I would now like to pick up again more full time.

There is plenty better to ask here than me. I am in the middle of my own club search and I've looked at so many I dont know which way is up.
I do recommend looking at all the clubs that you can access / afford, then go out and play them. Check out the facilities, practice area's, restaurant.
Some will feel right, and some will certainly feel wrong.
I was walking in to a certain clubhouse recently and we stood at the front door looking for a no spikes sign, and there was none. So we walked in to pay our sub and someone roared at us from the bar "get outta here with the spikes on". One of us went in in his socks and paid the subs. Not one of the 3 of us bought a drink, a bar, sleeve of balls, nothing. And not one of us will ever darken their door again. And this is a club that is screaming out for money and members.
BTW the course was empty, and it was a saturday afternoon.

Incidentally, has anyone seen the plans for Citywest - Is this a real project or just a rumour? I presume it's Christy O'Connor Jr again... I've heard nothing about it.

The lakes course has closed for work to begin, so its defo not a rumour. I have not seen any plans personally though.

Balls... back to start again

Unless...... they could be despearte for cash now and more willing to bargain on membership .... can hardly see it closing down within a year.... so could possibly still get a years membership out of it. ;)

Most of the N7 courses would be open to discussion.

    Castlewarden, Killeen,

leasing is the way forward, find a member via the club who is looking to lease, and anything they get is money back to them. I paid 1K for a 1500 annual sub last year.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 138 ✭✭Curly7

stay away from Citywest, the gym is great but the golf is terrible. it's not run as a proper club (i was a member there for 3 years)

I'm leasing a membership in Killeen at the moment €350 for the year so you'd probably get it for half of that until the end of Jan next year. Not mad on the place myself but it is what it is

I just joined Killeen Castle under their new membership category of Under 30's for €1250+VAT. I have 6 years to pay of the entrannce fee of €5000. I think its a good deal for a great course

I enquired into membership as I heard from a member who was on the finance committee that they were planning to do away with joining fee. Enquiry by email, followed by a gy phoning me, asking a few questions to suss me out and then quoting a 10k joining fee. Had the feeeling he was chancing to see what he culd get - turned me right off.
South County is now my target as they've dropped membership fee, so annual subs is all that's required

SEAFIELD G&CC is €995, no joining fee, and members play for free in 2 other courses ( cant remember which ones) with discounts on the hotel gym and spa. Played there a few times and really enjoyed it, nice course with beautiful views and a plush hotel. Maybe its worth considering if you are willing to drive, its about 40 mins from south dublin.

the general feeling with most of the posters on here is that the course is not great at all, great views of the hotel alright on the first few holes,it's a course with no feel, which is a pity as there are a few lovely holes on the course,it's a good deal for anyone that lives closeby but i couldn't get out of bed on a Sunday morning to drive down to that place

thats ok, each to their own, thought it might suit as a my friend is a new member and tells me a lot of the members are from Dublin. Also, he recommends it highly and agrees it lacks character but apparently improvements are being made.

as i said there are some nice holes but this is one course where improvement is going to be tough, you'll have to play it yourself to appreciate my point but you basically play a few holes around the hotel, when that's the main thing a visiter remembers about a course you've got problems.
As i said it's a good deal for anyone living closeby but not worth the travel, you'll find a lot of Dublin members also have houses/mobiles down there so it's handy that way.
