    Easier said than done!!
I would but finding a 525 2008, down here is a big task not many around for sale in platinum grey or le mans blue!

I think the manual gearbox will probably make it harder to sell than half leather seats.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 105 ✭✭dolby

Eoin your probably correct but for €30k cleared I cant find anything close to that, having a manual wouldn't be all bad with the v6;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,263 ✭✭✭✭Eoin

Auto will probably be better though! Also, I think it's a straight 6.

Edit - those seats look really nice.

A lot of people still dont like automatics. I dont mind either way but my missus hates them. Thats a sweet motor though.

I think people are ccoming around to auto's

What about a 520D lots of them around and they should be easier to sell on too.

The 2.0 diesel is a good strong engine. Plenty for the 5.

    Otherwise the 3.0

How does this fall into qualifying for VAT? How does it work?

It says it on the ad that its vat qualifying. Basically if you registered for vat here you dont pay the vat on the car in the uk/ni.

But why? Is this just because it is coming from a dealers? I though it was only on commericals that you would not have to pay the VAT?

No some used cars are also vat qualifying. Makes the car very cheap if your registered. Oh yes the car would be from a dealer.

I really would love one of these motors, however with only half leather will it massively effect the re-sale value in 3/4 years...

I think it's a really nice car but TBH I'd get one of these instead.
    Serious motor.

I love them too, I've had a could of Tdi A4s and was always averse to BMW for some reason.
Those E60 535ds are absolute animals though.
They can keep pace with some serious petrol cars.

Animals is right!! Nearly 300 bhp. Its definitley the next best thing to a M5..

TBH I was in one and I couldn't believe the power out of it.
Speaking of diesels, the new Evo XI is going to run on diesel.

The VAT issue is a non starter. If you have a VAT no. you will not be charged VAT by the seller. But, you will be liable for the full VAT amount on import.

The half leather seats are not such a downer.

The manual box is actually a plus when it comes to you flogging it on. Beemers with auto's are OK up to 100k, after that they are deemed trouble.

Aye. Could only find a 520D E60 M SPORT 4DR A here, but for €35,000. An older model for more... or what is the exchange rate these days?

I still wouldn't touch a 5 Series manual though, as I don't like the gearbox. For me, it's too notchy and the a fairly narrow gate and isn't a patch on the step auto.

Drove a couple of E60 525's with the 2.5 diesel in manual, and they were pretty awful. Didn't help that they'd been abused by the drivers and the gearstick in one kept coming off in your hand. The old engine was also a bit lacking - the current 520d is around the same power.

We have an 07 525d M-Sport Step Auto on fleet which is currently out temporarily, and it's lovely to drive. Plenty of power in it, but the road tax is a pain in the hole. This one has the half leather interior, but it's cloth down the middle rather than what looks like Alcantara in the OP, and those seats are really comfy. Ride is a bit harsh on the standard M-Sport wheels so I'd say the upgraded ones would be even worse.

525d from 2007 is a 3.0 litre and is a fantastic engine, a world away from the 520d. VRT is 24% versus 16% though so it will be more expensive to bring in but with so few 525d/ 530d's sold new I think it will keep the value.

Nice car, agree that the lack of auto is a problem, especially on a car like that and a diesel, changing gear in a diesel is not fun at all cause you do it so much in city driving. Good strong engine and much better than the 4 pot edition. However the half leather is rubbish on a car like this. Patience a better specced one will come along. The 35d engine is good alright.
