This is honestly a common problem. I was the exact same. I could see it's good points in the first 5 episodes, but it didn't really grab me. So after 5 episodes, I quit. Then a week later, I decided that I may as well finish the first season since I'd already bought it

So I kept watching, and I'm really glad I did. Give it til the end of the first season. Nothing to lose. If you still don't like it, fair enough

Give it til the end of the season tbh. I liked it from the start but I can see why people wouldn't. If you're not into it by the end of the first season I'd be happy to pick up the DVDs on the cheap from you. :pac:
Ironically I just started watching The Sopranos last night and got 4 or 5 episodes in and don't see the big deal about it. :P

trust me on this. I was the same watching this at first but if you can settle and get into it deep cause alot goes on then you will love it. season 1 was just getting the ball rolling. season 4 with marlo and the heads well thats a good one hardcore stuff. season 2 was ok but on the docks still good though. but it gets really kickass the further you go into it i.e season 3/4. well worth sticking with it thats forsure.

The only reason I stuck with it is because so many people said how good it was. I think it took me until about episode three before I got hooked.

There is a serious character overload at the start, but once you are used to that, you are laughing.

Trust me, you will thank us for sticking in there.

I watched the lot of it and I didn't think it was that great at all. It mopes along at a slow pace and seems to stop altogether sometimes. But then, I thought The Shield was great! :D

well it's like everything, people will like it and people won't. but all in all I thought it was damn good. especially clay davis sheeeeeeeit. mc nulty lol what can you say. bunk is a cool dude as well. if you can't get into the wire then all i can say is sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeit.

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet is right, quality show, Only Sopranos can top it really, Dexter is pretty good too, on series 3 now and its not as good as series 1 and 2, but will stick it out..

Before I got into the Wire, I had watched every Sopranos episode and thought nothing would ever top it but how wrong was I? The Wire has it all, great characters, great story lines, the way it cuts from scene to scene and keeps you interested. But the main thing is the realism, no Hollywood endings or cliff hangers, it's all there for you to enjoy, you just have to find it yourself.

I was exactly the same. I had never seen one second of Wire footage before I bought the boxset. I'm not sure how, I must have been living under a rock, but I hadn't even seen a picture of any of the cast so I recognised no one at all when I first start watching.

I must say, it took about five minutes of episode one to get me hooked. I would put it on a par with the Sopranos but I couldn't bring myself to say it's better :)

The character overload at the start was really confusing for me, i thought i was never going to get the hang of it. I'd say it took me the best part of 6 or 7 episodes before i got to know most of the characters.

It is definitely worth sticking with it though, i've just started watching the 2nd series and am hooked. I wish i had of been watching it when it first came out though.

The concensus on the Wire tends to pinpoint S1/Ep8 as the exact addiction mark. I can't disagree, I sluggishly trawled through the first seven and the I was finished the other four series in less than three weeks. Proper, meaty telly that never condescends.

I wish I'd never watched the wire..... so I could watch it again. There was a serious void after I finished season 5! Keep watching OP!

I enjoyed season 1 and 2 but didn't really get into it that much. Maybe part of the reason was that i'd be playing 4/5 poker tables at the same time, which is grand for a show like entourage but not for the Wire where you need to pay full attention. Still though, I thought it was good, without ever striking me as "the greatest show of all time".

But wow, have season 3 and 4 (so far) changed my opinion. I am giving it my full attention, and they truley are a masterpiece so far anyway. I go to bed at 12 o'clock saying i'll watch 1 ep on the laptop before falling asleep....5 episodes and hours later i'll still be watching :pac:

There's a good site which I only discovered during season 3 called what alan's watching. It gives a good review of each episode and reminds you of stuff you have forgotten, and condenses it all down. A good way of seeing different viewpoints of the show.
