Table quizzs and cheating

Tonight me and the gang are entering a table quizz (all money goes to charity) for the first time in a while. Our plan is to sneak one of those fancy iphones in and google all the answers. Would this be noticed by other teams or the quizz master would we be disqualified? Any other ways that we could take the room by storm?

    cheating is not the answer.

What's the motive for cheating, OP?

I hate when people cheat at pub quizzes. Everyone has paid the same to be there, don't be an arse and cheat.

    Depends on many things:

Seating arrangement - are the tables spaced out - try and sit beside something like a pillar so it can block other teams line of sight with you. Also try and sit in a corner

Numbers - If its busy, you have a far better chance of getting away with it and also if the team has a large number in it, they can cover/distract while one person googles the amswer.

The Team - Can a on the team person type without looking at the screen? Will you need to cheat at every question? or is the team capable enough to do well?

Or you could just not cheat and go for the whole 'charity' aspect of it - but then again, if you not first, you're last :)

100 big ones and long over due bragging rights over the two teams who win every bloody time with 99/100 points and we can only muster a few sport and telly ones. We will give the money back though.

You're still ruining it for the people who actually care enough to compete fairly in a competition.
    Low.

Not a bad idea. I once gave the maitre'd in Dorsia head just so I could get a table, sure I wasn't proud of it but who cares when you're eating out at the most fashionable place in town:cool:

You could just text a friend who is at home who has access to the internet the questions so he can Google or Wikipedia answers. Probably only worth doing for seriously big bucks though.

Got beaten in a film quiz a while ago and then found out a few days later that the winning team were cheating....

Better never let me catch you cheating in a quiz I'm participating in....

What is the point of cheating anyway? Never understood it myself.
Possibly because I never actually need to cheat..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

I can't believe people need to cheat in table quizzes. Read a book sometime!

That was a bit short sighted of you - go to Ikea, buy loads of tables, return home, unpack them, nowhere to sit, nowhere to sleep, just loads of tables.

I hate table quiz cheats particularly those who use performance enhancing substances like Omega 3 oils, there should be urine samples taken from all competitors

    They cheated.

I'm not going to cheat to win something.

To be honest, I'd rather come last honestly than cheat and win (We came 2nd in the quiz, after the cheaters...not last).

I was at a table quiz with this prick who kept heckling the quizmaster. It was in a student bar but he was clearly not a student and he was pissed. What an annoying tosser.

I've organised a few table quizzes for our company social club, it takes a lot of work to do.
I've set down rules that nobody can use a phone during the quiz and anyone who leaves the table during a round cannot return until the answer sheets have been collected.

I hope you get disqualified, you've no idea the amount of work, preparation and organisation that goes into a pub quiz, especially if the organisers had to make up the questions themselves.

I HATE quiz cheaters....with a passion. My sis tried to justify "iphoning" quiz answers a few weeks back and i *still in shock* lost the argument. You never win an argument with my sis...EVER :o

Id rather get 0/20 and gracefully come last than google the answers and "win"! Hate cheaters.

If I'm ever doing questions for a pub quiz there will be questions that can only be answered by cheats, and some wikipedia entries will be loaded, and it will be name and shame.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,952 ✭✭✭Lando Griffin

Thanks to everyone and their input. Did not cheat after all, two of my team could not continue beyond the third round anyway because the quiz as delayed with the match and they drank too much what a waste of a fiver

Was at a quiz a while back that had the rule: "If your caught with a phone during a round, your answer sheet is scrapped and ya lose all the points for that round."

Quizmasters of the world, unite, and start enforcing this....table quiz cheatin is a pain in the hole!

I was at a table quiz the other night for the first time in ages. They're lots of fun, but suck with all the cheating! Maybe first-third place should automatically be disqualified in a table quiz to deter cheating?

Cheats are easy spotted, they are the ones that always get the low score in the picture round while scoring high in all others! Idiots

Its one of my pet hates.

Was at a table quiz on friday night, could tell a lot were using iphones, my team mates were getting annoyed with it and said we should do the same. I said whats the point, just see how we get on.......we won! felt dam good although everyone else must of been fairly thick if they had been cheating!

But of course when are team of 4 lads in their early 20's won.....what did everyone else say??? they must of been using iphones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,785 ✭✭✭Aglomerado

I was at one on Friday night too - we weren't using iphones at our table and we came second. The team who came first had been using iphones, but no-one complained too much, the prizes were mainly bottles of wine and boxes of chocolates, no cash prizes as it was for a local charity and mostly fun.

If there had been cash prizes I'd say it would have been a different story.

You should name your team "I like to touch mayself 3 to 4 times a day" that way the quizmaster will look like a perv when he reads out the team names
