    Hi All

Was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the following:

We hired a guy in April and he had no P45 or previous employment details so I rang revenue with his PPS number - they gave me tax credits/cutt offs for him and told me to leave him on Week 1 basis for tax. They have since sent me info on his tax credits through ROS and under the Wk1/M1 they have printed 1 where under all other employess have 0 -cannot get anyone from Revenue on the phone all week and am just wondering if I should take him off week 1 and put him to commulative? I thought Week 1 basis only applied for a short period of time???

Any advice is very much appreciated.

I'd leave him on Week 1 for the moment, it sounds like that is how they are now designating W1/M1 status, but you are right to want to clarify.

Had he worked for someone else this year prior to being employed by you??

What I was getting at was....had he not got exact details....ie the final figures from his P45.....surely he knew if he had worked previously!

There was no P45 given to the OP, sometimes that happens if people were working "casually" and as so the Revenue tend to stick with W1/M1 to encourage the tax payer to file a form 12 after the year end to recover any tax overpaid.

    Hi All

Thanks for replys - employee had worked for a guy before but had not been given a P45 when he left (i took it that it wasn't a happy ending so asked no more)

I just felt it has gone on a bit now and would like to clarify one way or the other for his tax - obviously it would be better for the employee to be on comulative.

With a bit of luck, I'll get someone in the revenue next week to get some answers from them - that way I'll be happy that I am complying to what they require.

    Thanks again to you all
    Have a great weekend!!!
    :)
