My sister got a leaflet for this in the Kingswood area thru her door. Went this morning and bought 2 garden propagators and a load of capri sun. If you open an account you can skip the V.A.T.
May be worth a trip if you have time for a wander around.
http://www.tradecashandcarry.ie as far as I know it is just open to the public for the week!

I doubt if you can skip the VAT.

Cash and carries used to be like that. I've a Musgraves C&C Card and they charge VAT now - you just have to claim it back as a trader, whereas in the old days they didn't charge the VAT.

I could be wrong with this Cash and carry though - were you charged VAT this morning?

Definitely cannot skip the VAT, if you can it's illegal.

Sorry for not being 100% clear but by skip I meant you can claim your V.A.T. back.

The Sister's Husband owns his own company so she has the reciepts and will put em in with the rest of her claims.

    TBH it's not that easy.
He can claim the VAT back but if he's audited with the revenue commissioner he would have to prove why he had a business need to buy those things in the first place and could be fined as a result if he can't prove it.

Technically doing that is tax evasion.

Not trying to be a kill joy, but just pointing the legalities....

BTW - you don't have to buy from a cash & carry to claim VAT back. You can buy from anybody and get a VAT receipt and claim back based on that

On a side note, how does this place get away with not having a refund policy (as per the website). . is that not against the law?

But that would still be illegal, wouldn't it (unless she's buying garden propagators and capri sun for the business)?

For a cash and carry they don't have a lot of stock on the website?

Those policies don't apply to trade customers.

I nip into musgraves for a nosey they odd time if I am cycling by. A lot of stuff is more expensive than supermarkets, like soft drinks & sauces etc e.g. uncle bens catering size sauce can be more per kilo. My mate has a card I could get a loan of but I never once have. We have a card in work and they buy most stuff like sugar, washing up liquid etc in dunnes as it is cheaper.

Some people (like my mate) just blindly presume it MUST be cheaper since it is a cash & carry, there were far better deals in the 80's but certainly not now. I have seen 25kg bags of sugar there and it was more expensive per kg than buying the same siucra brand in tesco (normal price).

Make sure you have a good memory for prices before going in any cash & carry, I think some are overwhelmed at the size of boxes etc.

Yeah thats true, almost everything in Musgraves is more expensive than the supermarkets, especially after you add the VAT. The discount stores like Lidl and Aldi are far cheaper than Musgraves.
Although it'd be good if the warehouse type, cash and carry places came here, like Costco. Their prices do seem a lot cheaper than the stores, for some items: http://costco.co.uk/

Musgraves were doing Yellow Tail Shiraz for €7.49 a while ago in Tesco they were charging €10.99 i know it cheaper now but there is a difference on somethings

Here in Cork there are 2 Musgraves - one for the small shops, hotels, B&B's and folks who get a card for a business or whatever. There is another location for their REAL deals - and that is restricted to their own shops and franchisees - ie Centra and Supervalu - and ya won't get in there easily!

My impression is that the stuff in normal quantities is cheaper in Tesco or Dunnes, especially when there is a promotion on. If you need catering size amounts, or a particular brand or obscure flavour, then Musgraves probably will have it. However do your homework - cash & carry prices shown on the shelves are EXCLUDING VAT! I know that's zero on food anyway but hardware, electricals etc - look good when you wander round but when you add VAT it may not be such a bargain.

I know a couple of people in non-retail businesses who have cards for Musgraves - they rarely use them now.
