Hi, I have been working thankfully for the last 2 years covering maternity leave contracts. However when discussing payment details with my friends during the week I discovered that I have been paid the unqualified rate all along, thats 40euro an hour for the last 2 years. I didnt know that as I have a H2.1 degree I should be paid more. Could anyone please tell me (a) why dont the department take this into account automatically and (b) what should I now do to rectify the situation? Am I entitled to recieve backpayments? I feel sick at the thought of how I am now nearly in debt and I need not be. also I am currently re-registereing with the teaching council as I left my registration lapse as the paperwork was not sent to my current address, will this have an influence on my payment details. I really hope someone can help me out as the stress of the situation is terrible. Thanks.

Just a quick question - do you have a HDipEd? To the best of my knowledge, that is what makes you qualified or not.

No I dont have a Hdip as I did a 4 year teaching degree instead of the Dip. and have a B Ed degree. So yes I most certainly am qualified but just a bit silly when it comes to the paperwork and details such as this:(

Ring the payroll department and see what they say - this is the number I have for them: 090 6483699. The number on the Department of Education website is 090 6483600. I haven't rung them at all lately so I don't know what times they take phone calls but you might as well just get in touch with them to sort it out.

you would think that since the TC "decide" whether you are qualified or not there could be some communication between them and the DES....but maybe im expecting too much here

anyhow, had the same sort of experience myself. ring the DES and they will ask you to send copies of certs & transcripts etc, and they should reimburse you. bear in mind you will most likely have to hound them though
