    O2 sell O2 prepay broadband simcards on their own with out the modem,

    it is posted here, please visit the following link: http://www.o2online.ie/shop/broadband/mobile/

    Details as per O2:
    Prepay Broadband SIM with €20 Credit

    * Online exclusive
    * Instant access to prepay broadband
    * Great to give to your friends
    * Works with any O2 modem
    * Includes €20 credit and a 24hr Pass

    My first question is, can you insert this card to O2 hsdpa phone and use the phone as the modem? Does anybody have any experience using this O2 prepay broadband simcard as modem with i phone 3GS and connected with your computer via usb?

    my second question, also regarding charges and bandwidth limits,
    Say if you use 02 prepay broadband simcard with the iphone, would you be allowed with monthly limit of 5GB download- (as you are allowed when using O2 ordinary USB modem)?

    or

    would O2 provider gives you only a daily limit of 50MB download/ then charge you their 0,99€/MB download rate? Please advise.

    hi,thanks, I got chance talk to a girl in O2 and she said that technically yes it is possible to use phone and stream internet with this o2 braodband simcard, as well as yes it is technically possible to use iphone 3gd (3,5G)hsdpa as a modem by activating tethering option in the iphone settings. extract from o2 website:You will then need to switch on Tethering on your iPhone and connect to your laptop or Mac via USB cable or Bluetooth. Go to:

    * Settings
    * General
    * Network
    * Internet Tethering

    I will order on for €15 online as in the o2 shop it cost €20 (online you get €20 balance topped up anyway)/to home ,work address delivered. I will give it a try to see what the real life charges are and whether 5GB/month allowance is given or not.

    I confirm it work fine, received o2 prepaid broadband sim purchased online for €15, sim inserted into iphone/registered with o2. With sim comes 1 day free trial /24hour pass,and €20 remain as topup balance available, so now you can opt to choose 24hour pass or to 30day pass with 5GB download allowance, for charge of €3.97 and €19.99 respectively. It's not a bargain but you are not obliged to sign a contract for minimum of €40/month, also its much better download limit as standard sim prepay daily limit is limited to 50mb/day then you have to pay 0.99euro for each 1mb downloaded.

    If you subscribe to 1 day/24hr pass you get 500mb limit or 30day pass comes with 5GB limit.

    Iphone (with updated OS4 software) will act both: as a modem and also allows you to surf internet directly from the iphone using Prepay broadband sim.
    You can listen to online Radio, TV Podcasts, Youtube, plus internet surfing - 5GB seems to be okay for the moment.

    aha: you received 086 number with the sim so your friends can call you to your prepay broadband sim as usuall
    (for your specific mobile device drivers you can refer to o2 webisite: http://www.o2online.ie/Utilities/settings/default.do?wcmArea=/wps/wcm/connect/O2/Home/Explore+Services/Services/O2+Mobile+internet/Getting+started)

    lads, how is the coverage with the o2 mobile broadband?

    i have the 3pay mobile broadband in my laptop and frankly, its absolute smelly poo. it drops for no reason at any time after 20 secs usage, 2 mins usage, or just doesnt work. i have signal, 4 bars at most time, and sometimes its connected, 4 bars, but no internet access.

    i really need a stable mobile broadband prepay connection as i am currently trying to do timed online mcq exams and i cant afford or just plain cant get disconnected!

    if anything, which would be most stable?vodafone, o2, 3 or meteor in terms of keeping the connection alive. i would have no problems with 3g signal as im quite close to the red cow and all different sims have 3g connection. thanks for helping

    has to be 3pay as im only going to be using it till october. thanks!

    I bought this and the €20 credit was not on the sim. Now having to chase o2 for it.
    Also they sent me a recycled 086 number which is registered to someone else and cannot be altered.

    A load of balls really.

    Stable Broadband can't apply to Mobile.
    You need to use a College, someone else's house, office, CyberCafe or even Restaurant / Hotel WiFi Spot.

    Some place that hase real broadband.

    one question and maybe this is stupid, but can you recieve calls on that broadbasnd sim?
    id like to have prepaid phone calls and 20euro a month for that 5Gig option thing all working off the 1 sim( or at least be able to recieve calls on the sim ), is it possible or do you need to go with one of those 40euro a month stupidly overpriced bill pay options?

    Need careful here, did you buy simcard (pack) from O2 store in Dublin? I presume that yes. I did same on my first attempt. Similarly no credit.

    Go to o2.ie and order sim online, cost 15euro and you get 20 euro credit to start with, then you need to register and choose to activate your 30 day broadband access..

    No (unless you can confirm what type of O2 sim does it).I tried it hardly with two types of sim (3G Broadband sim & MMS sim) with 3G Broadband sim it appear not to be possible to receive calls. Tested with iphone3gs, and o2 simcard-it might be specific to iphone...

    Seems like O2 spotted that people may want to do this and are now blocking the possibility to RECEIVE calls on BROADBAND simcards!!
