Ladbrokes Irish Poker Festival 2010 (Direct Buy Ins Now available)

    Ladbrokes.com Irish Poker Festival – 1st to 3rd October 2010
    €250,000 Guaranteed Main Event

The Ladbrokes.com Irish Poker Festival will be held once again at the best poker venue in Europe, the Irish National Events Centre (INEC) in Killarney, Co Kerry, Ireland. The INEC is at the heart of a vibrant hotel and leisure complex, which includes the famous Thai Angsana Spa. Ladbrokes online package winners will be staying at the Gleneagle Hotel which is adjacent to the INEC.

This is the 3rd year of Europe’s best value everyman tournament and last year 752 players showed up to battle for the 100k first prize. Englishman and Ladbrokes player Thomas Rolfe took down the 1st prize and the honours list reads Ireland 1 and England 1 so far. 2010 will be absolutely mega with players from all over Europe already booking flights and planning the trip to the home of Irish poker, Killarney.

To find out what happened last year and what you can expect from this year, see our Irish Poker Festival 2009 pages.

This year, the three day Festival will be held from the 1st to 3rd October and the €550 Main Event will once again guarantee all players a whopping €250,000 guaranteed prizepool. Players will start with 15,000 chips, one hour blinds and will earn European ranking points.

We have only one major difference this year and that is the recession busting value of the package. The 2010 event package has everything you expect for €900. This includes the €550 buy in to the Main Event and 3 nights B&B at the Gleneagle hotel.

The Festival also includes two side tournaments, a two day €270+30 tournament Saturday 3rd October and a one day €150+20 tournament on Sunday 4th October. You will also have exclusive access to the Ladbrokes hospitality facilities. Here you will find a games room with pool and darts to help you relax in between all the poker action.

In addition to the poker, the host town of Killarney is synonymous with Irish hospitality offering a great range of night-life associated with Irish music and having the craic! If you have not been to Killarney before, flights from Stansted and Luton to Kerry (KIR) are currently available for as little as £25 each way plus taxes but check online for all the latest offers.

So make sure you don’t miss taking your seat at the biggest poker tournament on the European Poker Circuit and win your Irish Festival Package today.

Ok before I rant may I say first the organizers who run this run a excellent tournament .Everything starts on time and the organizers could not do any better except change the venue .
As everyone knows hotels are charging 1999 prices because of the recession but this hotel is charging last years prices and taking advantage of the poker tournament .Last year you won the package for €900 which covered your entry for €550 and the balance for the hotel which is €450 and this year it is the same. Now €450 for a twin room with just breakfast for a booking that is off season 30 September to 3 October . In my view the hotel needs a good paint good and a refit unless you are staying in the Breton which is a beautiful hotel. In 2008 we had great entertainment we had a guy who was a poker player singing one night and a great band the other night .In 2009 the entertainment was terrible. I personally think the hotel took advantage of the crowd that was going to the poker and did not care as they had the hotel booked out .
And before anyone jumps in about the dinner served to players it was terrible we should be eating in the restaurant like the other hotel residents that are not in the poker game come on chicken curry rice is not the average meal in a hotel .
Rant over if any one agrees or disagrees with me please feel free to add on and once again I have to say the organizers do a excellent and hard job running this tournament and if Ladbrokes dropped them it would be there loss

last year I travelled by train, its always nice to arrive relaxed, Killarney is just perfect

it looked like the train was going to be arriving in a bit late so I rang ahead and spoke to Matt Dobbins about reserving a seat for me

lo and behold when I alighted from the choo-choo, there was Matt with his car, offering me a lift to the poker

now that my firends is what I call 2st class service from 1st class organisors

ok so the food wasnt great and Matt and Connie were 2st to say so, I would imagine it was the best available

    here's a quick story
last year I actually made day 2, a bit of a shcok for someone with my limited skill set and ability, but hey, luck can carry some people a long way

anyway, I rose fairly early and went out to play 9 holes in Killarney Golf and Fishing club, played ok

had a nice brekkie out there, wasnt bad and didnt cost the earth

on my way back, i decided to take a bit of a drive and i spot an old geezer taking his rowing boat out of the lake
I stop and convince him to take me out for a spot of fishing as i have a couple of rods etc in the boot

so, 2 nice rainbow trout later, i give him the fish to take home to his supper and head off to the hotel,
a shower and light snack in their restaurant later and its off to play poker for the evening

now i dont know what some of you will be looking for or expecting when and if you ever get to heaven, but for me, well,,,,,its pretty damn close

Lakes and panoramic views of Killarney, Golf, Fishing, Poker and great food with people actually speaking a language i comprehend

that will do nicely, thank you

It was good to see you had a good time I did as well in 2008 the entertainment was much better but in 2009 it was terrible . Also the food was bad in both years I thought the food would have improved for 2009.
As I said earlier on the price has not dropped and we all know hotels have dropped there prices to get the customers but not this hotel. If things do not improve this year I think the organisers who run it should change venue in 2011. Having said all that nothing should be taken away from the guys running this as they run this perfect it is the hotel that is running this tournament down.
I'm only giving my views thats all and I'm not knocking the organisers in any way. Some of you are probably asking why do I bother going back the reason is simply I like the tournament and if you win the package you have to stay in the Glen Eagles Hotel .

Gotta chime in here and agree €450 for B&B escecially with a deal being done for probably several hundred people reeks of a back-hand deal to me, nothing here against big slick at all, but tbh you guys should be fighting hard for value for the players.

Look deals are probably done, and if i can qualify online i will be there. Lessons to be learned for next year.

Tenbob it was Ladbrokes that done the deal not Big Slick.I emailed Ladbrokes and Jo Sherring who I met in 2008 replied to me and she also runs the event with Big Slick and Co .
Here is the reply to my email and Im happy with the reply so time can only tell .

Hi Brendan, I have been forwarded your e mail by our Customer Service team regarding this year’s Irish Poker Festival and am happy to respond to your comments.

Following last year’s event we had a number of meetings with Destination Killarney (the owners of the Gleneagle, the Brehon and the INEC) regarding the rates and service for the 2010 event. As you say, feedback from 2008 was very good but there were some disappointing areas of service in 2009. The result of these meetings were as follows:

    - Rates were reduced for 2010, I am detailing below the amendments that have been made:

    2009 Room rate for 3 nights €400
2009 Room rate for extra nights €110 for Thursday, €89 for Monday.

    2010 Room rate for 3 nights €350
2010 Room rate for extra nights €80 Thursday or Monday

The rate for the Brehon has also been reduced from €525 to €600, with extra nights reduced from €130 to €90.

The package in 2009 was €950 (€550 Main Event and €400 Hotel) this year the package is €900 reflecting the amended hotel rate.

During negotiations I checked the market rates for hotels in that area and in particular I checked comparable peak weekends at the Gleneagle and the new rates were based on the findings of these market checks.

The Hotel have undertaken to improve the food offer for players in 2010. I can assure you that this area has been the subject of many conversations and we are working with them to finalise menus and they have given us a number of assurances around this area of their service. There were a few other areas we were not happy with last year and these are all being addressed.

I am confident that the experience for players in 2010 will be back to the service levels you would expect from a Ladbrokes event. I will be managing this event again and will be on site during the Festival weekend to deal with any issues that may arise.

Do let me know if you have any further comments and I look forward to seeing you in Killarney in October.

    Best regards

    Jo
