New MacBook Pro sluggish and hot?

Hey so I bought the base model 13" MBP and it arrived yesterday.
I spent the day installing programs and getting to grips with it (my first mac). After about 5 hours of use it suddenly froze when I pressed the expose button and I had to hold down the power button to restart it.

In general it seems pretty sluggish from just some web browsing and iTunes, which isn't good enough seeing as though any computer built in the last five years should handle that.

It is also pretty hot underneath just from web browsing.

    Is this normal?

Open Disk Utility (in the Utilities folder) and verify the hard disk. This is just to make sure the hard disk isn't failing.

Could you have installed something that might be misbehaving? Any AV software, bloatware, etc? Open Activity Monitor (also in the Utilities folder), click on the CPU tab and see if there's any process using an excessive amount of CPU.

Have you been playing flash videos? That will make your Mac run very hot as well.

I installed smcFanControl and increased the rpm's slightly and its running like a dream since!
