All the more amazing considering this was once the most expensive garage in the county for fuel (Apparently) http://www.politics.ie/justice/11456-statoil-ushers-quay-prices-explained.html

the recession doesnt take kindly to rip off garages and when the new garage opened on amiens street just down from connolly, for the first time in years there was actually more than 1 city centre garage and finally some competition :)

True but if I remember rightly (and I may be wrong) the original owner had the francise pulled or was bought out. Dont think Statoil welcomed the seriously bad PR this garage was attracting.

Incidently I know someone who lived beside it and the owner told them he had people losing the head several times a day at the till when presented with the bill - he would point at the pricelist on the sign. Said he didnt give a f**k.

The reason for this was that the garage owner had a ten year contract with the Gardai and they decided not to renew his contract so for the last year of the contract he upped the price because he knew they had no other choice.

It's a good while since I passed that station, but I can remember that even a few years ago it was outrageously expensive. I heard that about the Garda cars contract, but was it not expensive for years, not just for one year?

Pumps.ie is dead handy, saved a good 7c/l by shopping around of late. Also the applegreens - or at least the one on the malahide road - have 2c less rates after 10 or 11pm which is handy.

Eh no. The cops had Statoil Fuel cards, where they (and anyone else with them) bought at the Statoil rate.

Sheesh.. that is dreadful Photoshoppage alright.

I did pay 129.9c for unleaded today.. and that's the best price in Sligo (definitely inside the town borough anyways) AFAIK!

It's available in both Sligo Fuels (on the quays) and Mace (on Mailcoach Road) - they tend to be identical in price!

thats not a photoshop, the garage owner was just lazy and used the small numbers(intended for the .X bit) in the wrong section and same with the big .9(intended for the XX. bit)

People who know a lot (hell, you don't even need to know a lot) about image editing know suspicious images when they see one.. blow that image up in any image editor and you can see some obvious tampering.

I mean look at the top panel (in black).. then look at the bottom panel (in red). Look at the difference in contrast in the white background.. and it looks over-saturated.

I'm sorry.. but I call shenanigans on it! ;)
