    Hi there

Am visiting cork this weekend and wondering if someone can recommend a good restaurant. Don't mind paying a bit. Preferable somewhere lively, but not overly so.

Also, if anyone can recommend anywhere to go for dinner in Clonakilty I'd really appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance

Soho on Grand Parade is the first floor of a fairly decent lively trendy bar. Might be an option. Market Lane on Oliver Plunket Street is a very lively restaurant that is constantly buzzing, great menu too, particularly for fish dishes.

Naturally there are a lot of restaurants in Cork, can you help us out by telling us the type of food / restaurant you prefer (if any) ?

For Clonakilty, maybe try outside the town a little, dont know if there is anything amazing in clon... Try Casino House

    or Dillons in Timoleague...

I think seafood, kingtut. Or Italian.

I personally wouldn't recommend SoHo at all, but that's just on the basis of the bar. If the restaurant is anything like the bar, I couldn't think of anywhere I'd like to eat less.

For Italian food, Il Padrino's on (I think) Cook Street or Malborough Street has a great reputation. If you're willing to venture slightly out of the city, Annie's in Sunday's Well is fantastic. They usually have a good range of seafood. I can't think of any specific seafood restaurants in the city. Market Lane is also supposed to be lovely, but I haven't had the pleasure of trying it yet.

    .

It's not like the bar, the restaurant is quite spacious with very comfy seating. Food is nice but I think it's overpriced, they get away with it because it's trendy I reckon.

Me too, was just going to recommend this, as they had a lot of seafood on the menu. Very nice place too.

My girlfriend ordered the Prawn Tempura starter there, it arrived with three prawns!!! We haven't been back. Annies is amazing.

Yeah, I was there just the once with my Dad and my sister, the sister chose where to go, she's a bit of a sh1t to be honest, wouldn't mind a place being overpriced  I don't intend going back there soon. Still, it's not too bad a restaurant at all.

Thanks all for your great replies. Was told to head to O'Riordans (sp?) for a laugh so may head there afterwards.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

I'd advise to stay wellllll away from Soho, worked there a few years back and it's a serious up-its-own-arse place that thinks its incredibly trendy but tends to be full of wannabes...also its ridiculously overpriced for what it is!

Wouldn't recommend Il Padrino's either. Went there once, and that was enough. Food was AWFUL! Frankly don't know why it has such a reputation as it's completely undeserved....

Market Lane's MUCH better IMO!! Or if you want to spend a bit, try Greene's in MacCurtain St. Bit D4 as they say here, but the food's great! :D

Thanks everyone. We ended up going to an Italian Rossinis (sp?) It was absolutely fantastic.

Went to a great place in Clonakilty as well - Market House I think. Unbelievable as well.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Had a fantastic weekend in Co Cork :)

Can I hop in here with a similar request. Looking for a good restaurant (Italian, Spanish, Thai) which would have a handy spot to park. Staying outside the city and I'm not too good in walking any sort of distance. Sorry to hijack thread
