    Hey Guys,
got my self quickly assessed in the running shop on parnell street, long story short, i run on tarmac [sp?] so i need shoes built for cushioning.
i have a nike+ and a nano so a nike make would suit most.

Shop prices here seem a bit excessive, and shoes seem a bit dated
Anyone know any online shops or shops in dublin?

Amphibian King in Bray get the most recommendations on here.

Good runners can be expensive, but they're pretty much the only equipment you need

anyone buy off them ? prices seem a bit high compared to retail shops.

i dont mind paying much but amphibian king prices are a bit off compared to other sites, specially littlewoods.ie

If you go to a physical shop, you can try on runners and get advice. It's always going to be more expensive than online, because their costs are higher, but they can also provide services that you can't get online.

(I'll probably get my next runners online, because I'll be getting a second pair of a style I already use)

Just took a sample runner (Asics Gel 1140) and compared it:

    Amphibian King - €95

    Sub4 - €45

Best thing to do is shop around. Try Wiggle and CRC too.

I read this ages ago, forgot where, and kept trying to find it again
    Buy where you shop
Online shopping is terrific: you can get detailed product information, recommendations from other customers, make a choice, and have the product delivered right to your door. But if you aren't satisfied with the online shopping experience, you want to look at the physical product, for example browsing through a book in the store, you owe it to the retailer--and to yourself--to buy it there, rather than going home and saving a few dollars by ordering it online

I dont buy running shoes online because I really to try them on and get it right.

Not that I have anything against online. I buy all my other shoes from Zappos.com

Shops in Dublin that sell running shoes include Runways on Parnell Street, Arnotts and the many Elverys scattered across Dublin

Start fitness and bourne sports in north england, you'll find them on the internet and they deliver. No point getting ripped off in Ireland.

I'm a big fan of buying online but I also like supporting my local running/triathlon shops since they do contribute alot by way of sponsorship etc.

Anyway what I recently did was go to a shop (which shall remain nameless) try on runners which I saw online and then I purchased them online. Some might say this is rude and cheeky but with the money I saved I bought a new training top from that shop therefore I believe everyone is a winner

I'm sure that the OP's original question is a common one (it's what I was coming on here for at the moment). Perhaps there should could be a sticky on the topic of footwear fitting and where to buy?

If anyone has advise on where to buy in Limerick/Ennis region, please let me know. Preferably some place that will give decent advise, fitting etc.

I would say if you got a Gait assessment in Runways of Parnell Street, you should buy them there, they will help pick the best ones to meet your needs and size.

If we do not support our local running stores they will cease to exist and you not be able to get the gait analysis on-line. Yes, you are paying more, but you are getting a better service off-line.

However there is nothing wrong with buying on-line once you have found the pair that suits you and are looking for a repeat purchase at a better price and you know you won't be going back in a week saying they hurt your foot.

I like this article, and so will continue to post links to it
Think about it for a minute: the retailer pays rent, orders and stocks the product, pays salespeople. You take advantage of all those services, and then give your money to someone else who can give you a better price because they don't incur the cost of those services you just used. Not only is this unfair; it's short-sighted, because it will only be so long before that retailer closes his or her doors, and you can no longer make use of those services you enjoy.

I would buy mine from specialist store because then you get the shoe that you need. I'd say I rather dish out few extra euro than get injuries just because of wrong shoe.. and physios are very expensive!

Got two GAITS done last Monday and Tuesday
    One in Elverys in Blanch
    One in Runways

Went with the Runways recommendation - Elverys had me as a neutral to over pronate runner - and Runways stated that I was Neutral - Elverys were pushing a Nike Lunarlite+ runner but I was sceptical - hence why I went to runways
They suggested a pair of Brooks Glycerin 8's - took them for a spin today and the felt great - a little hard on the flat stoke but a real running shoe
go and get good advice, and once you get sound advice on runners then you can shop around for value in your recommended shoe

    Jacky, how much were they?

Its worth a lot just to find a salesperson who you can trust.

Its disturbing that you can have in-shop gait analysis done and get different results at different places.

    €110
Just found Runways very professional, salesperson knew what he was talking about - wasn't trying to push one brand or another - just said these are the runners that will suit you and actually made me do the treadmill agin to examine my run with the runners on - just felt more cofident in his advice

I find nearly all stores here in Ireland very expensive! Rip-off Republic and all that......

I always buy my stuff from www.startfitness.co.uk . You have to pay P&P but it nearly always works out cheaper even when that is accounted for.

Been troubled with runners and feet for a while , had gait analysis 2 years in a row in Elverys Galway and they had me in Kayano size 13 as I severyly overpronate .
Several toenails later , one sore knee and consistent ankle pain I went to runways parnell st 2 months ago , disappointed with the service, told him what I tought I need and without measurements or a gait analysis told me he had nothing to suit in . in and out in 4 mins
Fast forward to last Saturday and I took a trip to Amphibian King Bray, expert and attentive service , (Sean I think) spent 45 mins with me , I have one flat and one average arch , I only moderately pronate and the biggest suprise !! I am a size 11.5 in Mizuno Alchenmy !!! all that extra movement in the Kayano cost me 3 toe nails .
Normally shop online and would usually recommend it ,but for the service I got and even down to the simple advice on how to lace the shoe and how I should avoid lock laces in training may save me 000's in later physio bills .
Could not recommend them high enought , a littlemore expensive you its a package.
Bought 2 pair incl 1 Mizuno trail runner.
