Agree with most of that Scien, would personally have Becoming a Jackal first but otherwise spot on. Foals' new one is a real grower, I was a big fan of their first record and didn't warm to TLF initially but it's brilliant in its own way when you get into it.

Also, to throw in a couple more the new Redneck Manifesto is a good effort, not quite worth the hype though, and Delphic's first record Acolyte is decent stuff.

It's been a brilliant year so far for albums. Here's my top 5:

    crop_290.JPG

    1. Band Of Horses - Infinite Arms
These guys just keep getting better and better. It's not a radical change in direction but there's definitely a progression from Cease To Begin.

    beach-house-teen-dream.jpg

    2. Beach House - Teen Dream
An incredibly consistent album, not a weak track on it. I love the soft dreamy feel of the album.

    astro-coast.jpg

    3. Surfer Blood - Astro Coast
By far the best debut album of the year, and it gives Infinite Arms and Teen Dream a serious run for their money. An album full of memourable hooks and guitar lines from start to finish.

    alcest.jpg

    4. Alcest - Écailles de Lune
Not quite indie or alternative but this album is impossible to categorise. Somewhere between post-rock, post-black metal and shoegaze. A fantastic mixture of crushing chords, quiet and atmospheric instrumental passages, acoustic guitars, breathy vocals and some black metal screams thrown in for good measure.

    100405LCD-Soundsystem---This-Is-Happening.jpg

    5. LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening
Probably not quite as strong as Sound Of Silver but a really great album none the less. 'I Can Change' and 'Dance Yrself Clean' are excellent.

    Some other great albums:
    Broken Bells - Broken Bells
    The Drums - The Drums
Blood Red Shoes - Fire Like This
    Villagers - Becoming a Jackel
    Wintersleep - New Inheritors

Been a great year so far, especially on the Irish front.

    Tops for me would be:

    The National - High Violet
Joanna Newsom - Have One On Me
    Janelle Monáe - The Archandroid
Dum Dum Girls - I Will Be

Honourable mentions must go to Noveaunoise, Four Tet, Beach House, Flying Lotus, Mount Kimbie, Mountain Man (played Dublin last night), R.S.A.G and Kurt Vile. Any of those could make the top five, I just couldn't really pick between them.

Looking forward to Best Coast and Toro Y Moi as well.

Joanna Newsom and Hot Chip have been far and away my two favourite albums of the year so far.

Besides those two, there's been quite a few albums that i've liked to varying degrees, without being bowled over by - The National, Villagers, LCD Soundsystem, Fionn Regan, Beach House, Broken Bells, Gorillaz, Cathy Davey, MIA, The Hold Steady, Vampire Weekend.

Foals was probably the biggest disappointment for me - I can barely even think of a song off the album right now besides the singles.
