    Im confused.com

If I turn the emersion on, the water wont heat up in the boiler. If I put the heating on, the water will heat up

Light come on when I put emersion on. Anyone know what could be wrong? Do I need a plumber or a sparks ?

    Cheers

Take a picture of where your immersion is. I am guessing here. But what some builders did was put in an immersion switch but not the immersion. The switch lights up but no immersion underneath it.

So take a picture of the top of your tank and immersion switch.

If the immersion had been working before it might just be a stat. but if it never worked I am guessing this.

    Thanks Joey,

In the house about five years..no problems with it !! Only started last week?

I can see a wire going from wall into emersion switch and then another wire comming back out into emersion !?!?

    cheers

Prob just the immersion stat thats gone. Its not a job i am sure how to do because I never had to but i believe its quite easy. If you post on the electrical forum they will tell you. I imagine a local electrician will charge you about 60 euro to fix it.

However if it were me i would have a go.

Had a look at it last night, ok so there is the main switch ( red light goes on, when 'on') and two wires going into the boiler, one to the top and one to the bottom.

Thanks a million, wouldnt be touching anything myself, so will get sparks out at the weekend :o

If you are getting an electrician make sure he is willing to replace the whole immersion if it is gone. a lot of sparky's won't do it and will tell you to get a plumber, after they have charged you for a diagnostics of course.

I have never met an electrician that will change an element.

but yes this is the downside and why i would try the stat myself.

Usually what i have found is plumber plumbs it and electrician elects it.:)

get a plumber as the cylinder will more than likely need to be drained down to remove the old immersion
if hes any good he should re-wire the new immersion back up
    immersions are roughly €35
