Looking to get into Airsoft. Don't know anything about it yet. But what would be a high quality, first timers Pistol? And would you advise getting an assault rifle first instead?

    Cheers

If you plan on playing get an Assault rifle.

Check out www.irishairsoft.ie and http://www.irishairsoft.info for info on getting started.

    Loads of info here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055222596

Rifle first, pistol later. A pistol is only of use as a back-up unless you're in CQB games frequently.
Get a decent rifle that you're comfortable with and take it from there.

Depends on if your planning on just casual Plinking and collecting
    or actually playing the game/sport,

A pistol wont be much good to you starting off if you want to Skirmish
as most other people will be running about the place with their rifles.

No need to go off buying the most expensive kit either starting off
as you may not have decided yet what you find comfortable to carry
around the place or to hold and fire etc. Nice JG Brand G36 seems to be very popular for people starting out.
I've found the AUG to be something very comfortable to carry compared to other guns when
it comes to balance and weight and comfort, some of my favorite guns "looks wise" are less comfortable
and a nuisance to carry about the place.

Buy what you like the look of, no matter what you get it will suffice. If you buy a pistol first, then you get the awesome feel of the slide moving (which you'll love), and if you want to skirmish (i.e. play airsoft), then you can rent an AEG (Electric powered rifles/smgs etc) and still play without any bother.

But I would strongly recommend starting as you mean to continue; by what you like the look of. First one I bought was a KJW Taurus PT92, just for plinking. I now have 2 AEGs, 8 pistols & a sniper rifle - welcome to the money pit!

Yeah. Maybe I should avoid blowing money on these things for a little while considering my working hours just got cut for the summer so I don't have as much money as usual and I know once I get started I'll get hooked on them and before I know it I'll be broke and living under a bridge with nothing but an arsenal of Airsoft gear to my name. Lol.

Edit: So far I'm looking at these beauties.

    Opinions? Advice?

The Tokyo Marui P90 TR and the Tokyo Marui MK23 SOCOM Fixed Slide Full Set.

If you like the P90, I would advise getting the Classic army one

(near the end of the page)
    http://www.airsofttacticalsupplies.ie/electricrifles.htm

Then you can spend the money left over upgrading the internals even more

The ACM one is even better. I picked one up when they came out and the damn thing is a workhorse. It's also half the price of either of the TM or CA models, so if you do want upgrades, you'll have plenty of cash left for them.
Personally, I installed a tightbore, silicone hop rubber and a high speed motor, and had Masada reshim the gearbox. It can currently outperform even a lot of high-end rifles in range, accuracy and rate of fire.

I've the TM P90 bought from airsofteire sweet looking thing.
There are less expensive Brands out there now than the TM brand.
I was always worried about the receiver area which is plastic rather than metal,
But there is an aftermarket upgrade metal kit that allows you to swap the plastic part for a metal one.

I had issues with mags jamming both on high cap and mid cap
when they were half full so only used it in a skirmish the once.
People tend to assume they are not accurate as they look so short but
they have a great ol range off of them. There was a thread about them here
only a few days ago discussing inner barrel lengths pros/cons etc.

    EDIT: P90 Thread
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055841042

Amazingly "Snug" when you mount one to your shoulder and start to move about the place.
and you can use them from CQB as well are non CQB games.

The mark 23 socom pistol is probably the most practical and efficient pistol out there but it is non-blowback so you dont get that "plink" or the moving slide.

Where can i pick up the ACM one?

I know RSOV have them in stock, but they're probably too powerful. I'm not sure if RSOV do downgrades anymore. The alternative is you could have a retailer order one in on your behalf. A lot of Irish retailers provide that service now.

Also, the TM SOCOM is a heck of a pistol but it's completely plastic and, being a non-blowback, it has no moving parts. This means it's not nearly as fun to use but it is *very* quiet to fire. It's also very bulky.
If you want a silent pistol, the Maruzen P99 NBB is the king.

Cool. Sounds like a plan. I don't care how off topic this is but has anyone ever typed with a plaster around the mid section of their middle finger? Off putting much... Lol.

But yeah. guess I have two nice guns lined up to purchase when I get the cash so.

Cheers for all the input lads and any other advice is always welcome.:D
