Does your work allow you to go onto Facebook, twitter or any of those social type of websites? I'm looking for the name of companies that don't restrict access to employees but everyone I know seems to have it blocked in their job.

Does your work allow facebook? 53 votes

Yeah that's fair enough. I'm trying to basically get a sense if it is blocked or not in most places. I assume it is blocked in most. I've added a poll though to get a better idea.

My workplace frowns upon verbising nouns so I'm not allowed.

Self regulation! Sure it never did the banks any harm.

I work for an educational training centre and there are restrictions for students/trainees with regard to social networking sites but not for staff. There are computer rooms used for classes which have major restrictions to sites like Facebook, YouTube etc. but staff computers are fine.

Obviously, management make the assumption that while we can access Facebook during working hours, that we would limit our access as not to interfere with our work ... but what they don't know ... :D

I used to be indifferent to facebook. But now I actively dislike it.

    Ya.
But I use it as part of work too.

We're allowed on it outside normal working hours, and for about an hour and a half or something at lunch. Although a lot of people take the pi$$ altogether by taking their lunch for an hour, then coming back just in time for the hour and a half of facebook. I actually don't get how you could spend so long on it  I mean, I'd check mine most days, but it only takes a minute!

Can access it no bother in work but would almost rather be doing my sh*** job then reading how fools I barely know are "feeling wrecked" or got a "new high score"....time to unfriend a lot of people I think

Internet for business purposes only is the official line.

Which is why I am on here at 10.25 on a Thursday morning :D

Ill get to facebook later when Im really really bored!! It was blocked since Xmas on some computers, but miraculously came back last week :) Mine always had it tho.

Its up to our own discretion whether we have time to go on it or not, I try not to take the pish although I prob do on occasion ... Oops!

    https://www.facebook.com is your friend :)

You have to 'enforce' the 'https' somtimes, it's not perfect but if you need to log in quickly and work blocks it, it's a sneaky way to circumvent 99.9% of filters.

The WebSense is smart to that here, proxy refuses those connections :(

    I hate facebook.

And the thing is blocked anyway

I get the suspicion that Facebook is starting to jump the shark a little bit. Maybe thats why Google are bringing out a new version:
    http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/news/google-to-challenge-facebook-with-new-social-networking-service-lsquogoogle-mersquo-2014621.html

I also think that there is one thing seriously flawed in the facebook concept and that is the fact most people's social circles change (particularly when young and also when relationships end) and Facebook friends stay the same (unless you're ruthless and prune every so often). After about 2 years people have other people as friends that they would rather not have looking at their sh*t.

Nope, not here anyway, and for good reason :pac:

Ebay / Blogger / Facebook / Bebo / Twitter / Public email like gmail, hotmail, yahoo etc - all blocked.

Easier to wait until I go home rather than trying to circumvent it.
