To check prices on tesco online you have to register with them, I only did this a while ago since I am a stubborn bastard and think it is ridiculous that you have to sign up to see prices. However it is worth doing as you can check the offers online. I have noticed more and more offers in tesco and end up putting stuff back and walking around to check them all. The online lists also tell you when the offer ends which can be handy if you plan to stock up.

There are 218 half price offers right now so too many to list, they have other lists of BOGOF, multibuy etc.

    Just a few

Yeah I must register, its a bollocks to be quite honest but it'd be easier than checking the actual stores themselves. [plus the Rathmines one is piss for stock most of the time].

No doubt have all your info as it is linked to your clubcard number so they are probably watching what you are browsing and getting free market research info.

I remember radionics used to send me cd catalogues in work and they used to have a code on the cd case, I lost my case so was unable to look at the prices on this top secret catalogue, just imagine what would have happened if it fell into the wrong hands  Russian spys might have got it and ordered a few screws.

Does everyone not check what's on offer at the various stores before doing the shop?
I thought it was normal to do so since 2005.

I don't think so, especially not tesco since they make you register. People post tesco prices here a lot, but it is quite rare to see them post the "offer end date" though, now if they were browsing online they would cut & paste like I did above. So it would seem to me even internet users like boards members are not going online, I have never heard a person tell me "I went online and saw such and such is on offer on tesco", though I get told about quite a few offers from people who went to the store.

In the past you were lucky to see a handful of half price offers in supermarkets, tesco have loads now.

I have seen people post pics on dunnes or other supermarkets though.

Dunnes have nowhere near as many offers as tesco though.

It's been said in the forum before [and I think its very true] that the best offers in Tesco aren't advertised.

Yes, I have said that in many threads myself. There are some incredibly cheap items with no offer signs, I often have a double take when looking at prices wondering where the offer sign is and then thinking it must be a mistake. Then I go up praying it was a misprice so I can get it free -or better still I would go back in and buy 20 of the item and get those all free ;)

Conversely there are many bogus non-offers in tesco and you see people filling up trolleys with them just because a sign says it is a good bargain, some people are just unable to spot good value.

Dunnes website doesn't give you prices for beers, it's annoying:(

The site is hard to navigate, really doing themselves a disservice. Some offers were listed here, but not in the beer/wine section.

Check this site - this girl was on Matt Cooper earlier:

    http://www.shrewdfood.ie/sf/Super_Offers.html

She trawls the supermarkets each week for the offers. It's great to see the entrepreneurial spirit such as this.

Yeah their web site is handy for checking deals. Although they seem to vary by store, so not 100% reliable, just a guide. Also I've seen a deal online, and a day of two later, its not in store, either the offer is over or item was never on offer. So seems a little hit and miss.

If you use a Clubcard check out the Favourites section. There you'll find all the products you've ever bought in Tesco, waiting for you. Handy, although slightly Big Brotherish creepy.

Thrift.ie - The Best of Ireland’s Consumer Advice and News is also excellent as a source for getting information on the offers from Tesco, Dunnes, Super Value, Aldi and Lidl.

If you subscribe to their RSS feed for Google Reader it avoids the need to remember to check them.

anyone tried the chicago town mini pizzas?
Yeah they are pretty good, worth a try at that price. Only problem (as with most microwave frozen stuff) is that the edges can go dry & hard while cooking if they are overdone. I often do not microwave as per instructions, and I see some packs say to do it the way I usually would, i.e. cook and let stand for a minute or 2, then put back in. They have those silvery plates that toast the bottom. I imagine they would be a lot better in a normal oven.

The other problem is they come out hotter than the sun from the microwave and take ages to cool down, so if you are too hungry and eat it too soon prepare to have no skin left on the roof of your mouth!

A totally OT post I made before about microwaves
    rubadub wrote: »
Substances have different "loss factors", basically their ability to absorb microwaves. Also stuff at different temperatures has different loss factors.

Water absorbs microwaves very well, ice does not! If you put a frozen glass of water and normal glass of water in the microwave it will get hot while the ice glass is barely effected. Once a little drop of water does defrost then the microwaves start piling into it. It heats up really quick and its own heat defrosts the frozen bits around it (rather than the microwaves, it just conducts heat). This defrosted spot then absorbs microwaves again and you end up with a little heat spot, it is like putting a tiny bit of water in a kettle, all the power goes into it and it heats really fast.

So if you microwave a frozen burger you can see brown cooked bits, that can dry out they are cooked so much, while the rest is frozen. Happens with all meat but with burgers you notice the colour a lot more. The first places to go are usually where you touched the item, your fingers defrosting it slightly.

Solution?- simple! just rinse your item under a warm tap before microwaving. It is now coated in a layer of water which will absorb the microwaves and inturn defrost the rest by conduction, once defrosted it absorbs microwaves well. Just keep stirring stuff like stew so it all melts evenly enough.

The offers you see on the Tesco website are the ones available in the store that does home shopping nearest to your address, that's why you have to register, it is mainly a home shopping website rather than just a info website.

So if i want to see what's in stock in Tesco Clearwater, i register under a different person with an address in Finglas!

The reason why there are so many not advertised offers in Tesco is because the offers are supposed to print out on the yellow SELs but wither they don't or a customer complains about the way the offer is worded any you have to change the offer back to blue and white paper.

I always go for the double pack of chocolate hobnobs for €3
I think they're nearly €3 per pack in most spars etc.

Tesco have an offer of two cans of ANY 200ml Gillette Shaving Foam/Gel for €5 - normally these are €5.99 each (and still were in Dunnes today).

Its an unbelievable offer, but think it expires Monday.

How does it compare to Tesco Shaving Foam/Gel ?
Is it more of a bargain?

Tesco seem to be de-listing a range of products and have many at half price or less.

Many seem to be the bristish brands they brought in but simply did not sell

    Newbridge -
Cordinu Vintage rose - €30 down to €10
Montana Reserve €12.35 down to €6

    HP steak sauce - 1.99 to 99c
A range of bramwells chutneys @ half price
    mustards (forget brand) half price
Hot sauces, dips etc etc - half price.

No idea, perhaps someone who uses same could advise!

For anybody who uses Gillette products its certainly a bargain!

Next time your in take a look at the price per single pack in Tesco's versus the "great value" double pack - you'll be surprised!!

To take away the anticipation... 2 x single packs work out cheaper than the double pack.
