    Hi Guys

I am heading to asia in a few months and was thinking of going into China for couple of weeks from Vietnam.
Just wondering has anyone done this and is it worth visiting this part of China?
Also is it difficult to get a visa?

    Cheers

If you get the visa for China before heading over to Vietnam you should have little problems, have organised a few family members coming over to here (most recently only a few weeks ago) with no problems at all. They're also very quick to get (1 week max) and the embassy is located close to the RDS and has a bus stop pretty much on the doorstep.

One thing to bear in mind is that the border guards there can be quite strict from what I've heard (i.e. passing over from Vietnam into China, I assume you'll be going by land across the border?), much moreso than elsewhere. So for instance if you're bringing a guidebook with a map that shows Taiwan to be independent from China they will take it off you. This includes the Rough Guide, I believe the Lonely Planet as well. Just bury it in the bottom of your bag and it'll probably go unnoticed. Don't take in any books they might perceive as being anti-Chinese (they'll most likely not be able to read English, but I've been led to believe there's some sort of list of books they know to look out for and confiscate). The obvious no weapons, drugs etc. are a given.

As for it being worth visiting, I have yet to make it down too far south but I'll be there this August for just under a month, I'll be back to let you know how it was! However I've heard nothing but good things about the south of China and from the pictures my friends have shown me it is a beautiful place, so I personally would tell you to fire ahead and get planning.

Its getting really hot there now. I was in Guangxi last August and it was hitting nearly 40. I nearly melted when I got off the plane! I`m heading back again in a few weeks so preparing for it again! Guilin and Yangshuo are pretty famous places now with lots of tourists, the scenery is stunning imo. I`d recommend anyone to visit China and experience it even for a short time.
