    Well,
After waiting since early may since ordering my new Octavia vRS for this week build date my dealer has informed me today that it is currently booked for week 38 build date.
No good to me as I would be 7 weeks without a car and that is a no-no for me in my situation.

What is the verdict on this??
    159 - JDTm

    Nice :)

Would a 147 diesel be any good, I know where there is a good one with an enthusiastic dealer ready to sell

    http://www.carzone.ie/search/Alfa-Romeo/147/1.9-JTDM/201020198074355/advert?channel=CARS

I stopped in for a look a week ago. They are a bit long in the tooth but nice car. Also has two 2008 petrol 159's in stock and is eager for a sale

Thanks but I am looking at new and personally would prefer bigger than 147
    Thanks for the reply.

That 147 is basic spec. The 159 is better built, safer, and holds it's value better that the 147. So you guessed what's my verdict :)

No problem, I had just spotted it, it is new though with delivery mileage.

Although they are being replaced in August, personally I'd prefer a new 159 as well

Wait for the Octy and see if the garage can do something in the interim.

The Alfa is not as nice to drive (in my opinion) as the Octavia vRs - I've driven both a fair few times.

Would it be an option for you to see if the dealer can source a vRS from another dealer

As far as I know there is only one Race Blue one in the country... It has been sitting in the showrooms with the last 12 months so wouldnt have the latest spec

+1, i'd be expecting a loaner until the Skoda arrives.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,096 ✭✭✭johnos1984

I would suggest a loaner and if the dealer isn't playing game call Skoda Ireland and let them know they are loosing the sale if they can't give you a good car for the interm.

Can't see them giving you a loan of a similar car, they may well give you some thing they took as a trade in though.

It's not so much the loan of any particular car so much but what is upsetting my train of thought is the fact of Registering a new car in late October.. Or am I being paranoid?

what about using the updated version of your username... Insignia

38 weeks build seems a bit excessive...

I don't think you are as if you went to trade it in 2012 it 'would' be a 3 years old car in their eyes. It is very late to register it agreed.

Along the lines of the Octavia, have you thought about the Insignia?

    Normal

    Tourer

I think they're pretty delish looking, and they're pretty high spec afaik...

For god sake your buying a new car! Get what you want! Ring every Skoda dealer in the country and see if anyone has any in stock, or any coming anytime soon.

If all else fails, bangernomics for the rest of the year and have a shiney 11 plate for yourself! (With the depreciation in the first year accounted for by registering in October, you could probably buy yourself a fairly nice car for a 2 grand ish and sell it for not too much less than that come January...)

The 3 month delay would boil my p1ss for multiple reasons, one being the late registration.

Vectra - knowing you at this stage I'd advise against the 159. Personally I like them, I think they're by far the most stylish saloon in that class and even the class above. But you're an Octavia man and you'll kick yourself that you didn't wait if you go for a 159 instead.
I wouldn't worry about the October registration if you were either trading in or hanging onto the car for many years. I don't think you are trading anything, so based on that then you'd be better off waiting the 3 months till Jan. Either get the garage to provide you with something till Jan or deal elsewhere. Have you tried ringing a dealer in NI?

He's not going to get anything but standard specification in any model at this stage. I ordered one to the same spec as Vectra on the 2nd February and that was finally delivered on the 11th May.

I ordered 2 x DSG Elegance models on the 12th February and they were finally delivered on the 15th June!

Apparently there is a world wide parts shortage (as some people in other parts of the industry tell me) which is holding up production of some cars. The factories closing for 3-4 weeks shortly doesn't help either.

It has been an absolute nightmare trying to get hold of anything from stock this year. Focus 1.6Tdci Style are usually not a problem, but anything else - especially if there is an extra on it - will take 8-12 weeks if you are lucky. Although, I did get a 3 series Coupe in 4 weeks from order (one already scheduled for production that they amended) and a 1 Series in the same lenght of time.

Except for models which are going out of production, or luxury 4x4's which just aren't selling, no one (even Ford or Opel) is keeping stock.

    Tell me about it:rolleyes:

The father was told the same about his Scirocco but he did the above and found one!

Still, after what you've just said, it only makes more sense to order in Sept. or Oct. for January.

Order in August to make sure your 2011 car doesn't slip into February / March ;)

Think I might just hold tough for the Octavia vRS.. the way it is looking is that I should have it latest 1st week in Oct.. My birthday is the 11th Oct so can call it my B'day Present :D

The guy that bought/is buying my current car also booked the vRS for when I am changing and said the October registration makes no odds to him

I think the two months between Oct - 31st Dec will fly and come JAn you'll be sickened you didn't wait. Save another bit, treat yourself to an extra and wait till Jan! You never know they may have more features standard for the 11MY

    Hmm..
I think the OH already feels I am after treating myself to this :P

i wouldnt lose out of the VRS for the sake of 7 weeks.

why not see if you can come to an arrangement with the dealer to buy a banger an sell it to him when the VRS arrives?

    just a thought?
