Mira Elite st shower won't stop running

Our water was turned off yesterday evening (can't get through to anyone in the council for an explanation!), it came back after about 2 hours but very dirty still this evening. There's still dirty, silty water when we flush the toilets.

I turned on the shower this morning and let the water run clean but when I switched it off it didn't stop running. It's a Mira Elite ST (only installed a year and a half ago) and it normally dribbles for about 30 seconds after switching the off button on the shower itself, but this is a full flow of water for about 10 minutes, even after switching off the power button on the wall. I've tried it a few times since with the same result.

From what I've seen on other threads, it sounds like the solenoid valve has something stuck in it. Does anyone know how much it'll cost me to get it fixed by a plumber? I'm not comfortable messing with electrical equipment of any kind myself!

An Hours labour plus VAT if he is a proper company. It sounds like the mains has disturbed the sediment is the bottom of your tank when it came back on.

As johhnyk stated but tbh i would take out the solenoid and flush it with cold water. Just keep the water away from the electrical part.

Just as Joey said take out the solenoid and clean. Had priced new parts, etc, and after a simple clean worked away as good as new. Its a bit fiddly but simple enough. You'll need "star drive" screw drivers as well as a normal philips though.

Mine does the same. Is it an anti scalding device. Mine stops after 15 seconds and when cold water starts flowing through.

I have a Mira Sport shower - 2 years old
2 months ago water kept flowing when off - plumber changed the black valve chamber (with solinoid at bottom)
2 weeks ago same happened and plumber removed black valve chamber and flushed with water in both directions
A few days ago same happened and I did same as plumber did - did not solve the problem - water kept flowing when stopped
I opened the black polythene filter nut, removed the filter and washed it
I then poured 30 milli liter of Domestos into the black valve chamber and left to disolve for a few hours
Then ran the shower and all was good

The solenoid is part of the flow control valve. Solenoids can fail in the open position. This is why the plumber replaced the flow control valve originally.
The solenoid can also get blocked with dirt and stick in the open position. It's a mains fed shower so can't blame dirt in the tank.
You obviously had dirt in your mains water or well. The problem isn't with the shower and will happen again if the water is dirty. With luck all will work fine now
