Hitchhiking website for Ireland

When I go off on surfing trips out West I am always bothered by two empty back seats. Surf boards are hard to get on buses, trains, etc so public transport is usually out.

Is there a wesbite I can advertise space in my car for these random trips out West? a digital lift-offer as it were.

I've tried to use www.carpool.ie for this purpose but nobody has got back to me yet:-(

Anyway, it would be great to use boards.ie for this purpose if I was allowed.

Lets bring hitchhiking into the 21st century - like in the continent (eg Germany) and save our carbon feet!

PS: I've tried to hitchhike in recent years and its pretty darn hard pretty much anywhere in Ireland - think we've all become cynical and dearful of our fellow man.

I love hitch hikers.... I love to see the look of happiness on their faces when you pull over to pick them up.

And how it changes, as you pull off at speed just before they get to your car!

Did you do a course in Missing the point or is it just a God-given gift...?!

Anyway, OP: Not really what you're looking for, I know, but on topic-ish. http://hitchwiki.org/en/Ireland

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    Damn "do good" hippies!

For some reason you made hitch hiking seem creepy...pfft...advertising for victims!

I was talking to a friend of mine a few years ago on the phone, who I hadn't seen since college... we were chatting away about what we'd been doing since then etc., for about half an hour, when he said, "I gotta go now... I have to drop the kids off at the pool".

I said that I couldn't believe that we'd been talking for so long & he'd never mentioned that he'd had children.

    DOH!!

One presumes that if the mooching gets you killed and you met this person through boards we'd somehow be legally liable for your willingness to be driven about in the dark by strangers.

OP - confess you're secretly hoping that two sexy foreign chicks will reply to your offer of a free "ride"

anyway people just don't hitchhike anymore - sign of the times, way too risky

It is also illegal to hitchhike on motorways so that has put a stop to it also.

OP is heading west so motorways aren't really an issue.

Back from my uneventful car journey out "wescht".

Nerry a hitchhiker I spied on my travels:-(

I agree that motorways may be partly responsible for the decline of the hitch-hiking, but it seems that people are to wary for insurance claims and potential homocidal maniacs and prefer to have a maximum of one person in their SUVs at any one time just to be on the safe side;-)

I'll continue to post my journeys online (carpool, tripmi, etc) so that those "dammed hippies" may one day grace my car with their broad-minded views and whafts of incense.

I wonder what price petrol will have to be to make it hitch-hiking groovy again? Any views? I reckon when it hits 2.50e/litre (next year sometime?), then I'll be able to pack my car with victims...whahaahaaa
