What is the average mileage?

Just wondering would 44k miles be considered 'high' for an 08 car? Its a 1.6 diesel engine.

Not high at all imo.
Average mileage for a diesel would be 15-20k per year.

Miles or Kilometres out of interest as sometimes people get mixed up when quoting.

Either way I'd think it was low

If you are selling it, you will be told its mad mileage & that the average is 12k miles/year.
If you are buying it, salesman will say its only run-in.
IMO, 20k miles per year is normal enough

I would consider 15k-20k miles (whatever that converts to in kilometers) to be average. Depends on where you live as well tho. I have lived out in the country for most of my life and put up a lot more than that annually. This year I moved into a town and my annual mileage has literally halved.

12k miles a year regardless of fuel type has been the average for the last decade I believe. No real source, just what everyone I know goes by. So yes, 44k miles is a LOT in 2 years.

The consensus seems to be thats it's about average. Considering it now 6 months into this year it works out at about 18k average. BTW it is miles and not kilometres.

The car is a Grand Picasso (7 seater) manual.

Nice family car.

As with everything French check the electrics twice. Secondly look for the end of the plastic dipstick as its a sump off job to remove. Thirdly check the clutch carefully and try get it covered by warranty as they can fail at 50K. My neighbour will attest to this. Finally check for damage to the windscreen as they are large and expensive to replace.

Otherwise its standard checks and hopefully happy motoring.

I would be inclined to suggest that the 12k miles per annum is now somewhat out of date. With the extent that roads have improved over the last 10 to 15 years (some may argue on this) and people are commuting further to work quite often to the extent that a 50 or 60 round mile commute on a daily basis is quite regular now. Granted people nearby work and living in the town/ city won't be doing as much mileage but we are talking average here all the same.

I myself would be more inclined to go for a higher mileage car that has being well maintianed rather than a lower mileage one that has being neglected. Condition of the car and availaibility of servicing record would be more inportant to me than the odometer reading.

Johnos thanks for the heads up on all those checks. I intend to bring along a mechanic with me to ensure all is in order with the car. Obviously will be checking all the servicing stuff etc. If not in order, largepants will walk away.

Buy a used car should be an emotionless activity but rarely is.

OP, is the car an Irish one or English one?

All cas here since 2005 have been in kilometers while all cars are still in miles in the UK.

If it's 44k km, that's 27.5k miles which is 11k miles a year (for 2.5 years) which is below average. (I do 40K km a year!)

If it's 44k Miles, that's 17.5k miles a year (again 2.5 years driving) which is now fairly average, or just a fraction above average.

I know this is off topic, but the amount of people who still get miles and kilometers mixed up is amazing when it comes to odometer readings in cars, and the amount who think that after 100k km the car will fall apart.......
