Strange how one of the biggest transport projects is lodged today and it hasn't made it onto here yet. Obviously it's more important to whinge about where on a platform a train stops or whether or not railcars are used once a day on the Sligo line

Some reports are putting the emphasis on the fact that the RPA have written to people telling them there's up to €30k compo per household if their house is damaged during construction.

You can be damn sure houses will be 'damaged' during construction.

Perhaps because it will never happen? Hopefully.

You don't want the Interconnector to happen?

Lemme guess, you'd prefer the Western Rail Corridor?

Why would the RPA be writing to people about the DART Underground?

And Judgement Day - why do you not want it built?

Infrastructure's Dart Underground thread is here.

Skip to the more recent posts for everything including why Judgement Day does not want it to be built.

Are you pulling me up on a technicality (it's IE), or do you genuinely not understand my post?

The closest thing was a load of cones/barriers marked "Metro North" and RPA SUV's parked on Ballymun road for the past 2 weeks as they scraped a few pavements. I think they were around town too.

    Video from Irish Rail's website:

Looks good - should benefit both Dublin and the country.

It's a pity the Metro won't do a full north - south route of the city.

It's a bit more than a technicality but I'd be surprised if they (IE) were telling people to claim.

And with regard to Judgement Days offering on the infrastructure forum it's just another rant about CIE/IE being involved with no detail at all - just another whinge.

I can't understand how they think they can expect to get a railway order on the basis that no matter how much damage they accidentally cause to someone house or business premises whilst they are building our tunnel underneath it, they will not pay the injured party more than 30,000 euros in compensation.

Irish Rail have been doing a lot of test drills on the proposed route of the line as well as some prep work readying Pearse Station over the last 2 years; perhaps this is what you heard about.

4 qualified bidders to build the interconnector announced by Irish Rail today
DART Underground - Four consortia engaged in PPP Process by DART Underground

Iarnród Éireann has announced that four major international consortia have entered the pre-qualification phase in the Public Private Partnership procurement process for DART Underground.

    The consortia are:

BBI Consortium (Balfour Beatty Capital Ltd, BAM PPP Investments Ireland bv, Iridium Concesiones de Infraestructuras, S.A.)

City Connect Consortium (Macquarie Capital Group Ltd, Cintra Infraestructuras, S.A., Global Via Infraestructuras, S.A.)

NascRail Consortium (OHL Concesiones S.L., Soares da Costa Concessoes SGPS, SA, Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c., Bombardier Transportation (Holdings) UK Ltd, Pierse Contracting)

Toto Consortium (Toto Costruzioni Generali S.p.A., Societa Italiana per Condotte d’Acqua S.p.A, Ansaldo STS S.p.A., Condotte Immobiliare S.p.A., Torrena Scavi S.p.A., Rocksoil S.p.A.)

The strong interest in the PPP process represents a vote of confidence in the project from the international market, and Iarnród Éireann will now commence the assessment process, which will be completed over the coming months.

It is the latest boost for commuters who will benefit from DART Underground, with the project having been confirmed in the Government’s Capital Investment Programme last week. DART Underground will also provide an important stimulus for the economy, on the employment side alone creating up to 7,000 jobs during each year of construction and thousands more indirectly as a result of the significantly improved access that the project will deliver to retail, commercial, leisure and tourist destinations in Dublin.

    Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c.

so it'll end up in NAMA then :pac:

why 4 different ones though, different elements of it?? (ie tunnel, electric etc)

Those four will now compete in a battle to the death for the contract. Only one will win. :D

My tip would be on the Macquarie consortium because they look like the best on paper. It's important to stress that such success would have nothing to do with the one of the companies involved being headed by a prominent government adviser. I state this because some unkind people may draw inferences from their extraordinary past success in winning state tenders and his role in the business.
