    Hi,

I've been looking around at some old Italian steel road frames. Mostly stuff from the 80s-90s with Columbus tubing like Colnago Master, Fausto Coppi etc.

I'm just wondering how practical they are nowadays. I know they were the real deal in their time. But, is it worth spending 300-500 on a frame and another500-1000 on components when you could buy a brand new allu, possibly carbon complete bike for the same money.

I don't race, but would use it for charity cycles, sportives and sunday spins of 60-100kms. Any opinions?

Maybe head over and have a look at retrobikes.co.uk. Site was recommended to me on here when I was looking for the same. I'd say go for it.

prob not, i have one hanging in the shed which i'm thinking of banging on some old stuff to stick it on the turbo next winter.

columbus SL flexy as heck compared to a modern CF frame (watch the forks go all over the place and the BB move when you get out of the saddle)

    but it looks cool

oh yes and saw a guy on one in the tour of sligo went straight past me (just saw him last night when i was driving out of sligo - remebered the bike ! )
