Cover letter advice required

I'm applying for an internal job transfer through my current company.

My main issue is that there are openings in another less favourable city to the one i want (London).
My question is that how do i state that i'm only interested in the London opening. I'm thinking the cover letter is the best option to do so.

Anyone have any similar experience of such a problem?

would it not be as simple as "i'd like to apply for the position of x in the y branch" ?

It could be and i may well be guilty of complicating things.
    Cheers
