Not for me but for my folks.

has to be near the flower market and within walking distance to some attractions.

obviously there not interested in clubbing but would prefer some nice cafes and restaurants to go to.

so any suggestion, not too expensive now:D

Anywhere near dam square or the rld is very noisy with stag partys and the like.would be hard to get a good nights sleep, thats what i found anyway,

but in the south west, theres a really nice place with loads of cafes and restaurants, and entertainment, its called Leidseplein.

5 minutes around the corner from that, there's a cul de sac, with a good few hotels, i stayed there in the sipermann hotel. really good rooms and facility's for the price, and i shopped around and couldn't find anywhere cheaper or better.liked the hotel that much i went back 3 times.

also tell your folks to be ready to pay 30 to 35 euro city tax once arriving and paying for the hotel, this is the usual for "most" hotels in Amsterdam.

    good luck.

    I also vote for Leidseplein.

Have not had to pay "city tax". First I've heard of it in fact.

Rembrandtplein is perfect place to send the parents, its lovely down there and pretty quiet, far enough away from the stag do's and brazzers but close enough to all the mager attractions.

actually ****, its not rembrantplein im thinking off, its the other place with the big 'AMSTERDAM' sign in a park, ill try find the name.

    boooooooooom, found it, Museumplein

My place of choice when i'm there is,

    http://www.rembrandtclassic.com/EN/hotel.html

Get a non ground floor room and you laughing. 5 mins to Dam Square and I've been there 7 times and not a single issue with the place. Not a 5* but sure, its close, clean and the breakfast ain't too bad.

You can be at this place in less than an hour from touch down to your room. 15 min was to the Central Station, 10 min was to main area for bars and a tram is only around the corner along with the Irish Bar.

    Hey all
I am heading to the Dam for a few days at the end of Oct with my boyfriend. I have the flights all done and dusted but finding it impossible to come across a hotel that's nice and clean, nothing too flash and somewhere in the city centre area...think I need breakfast included or do I?? Hotel names please..... Thank yousmile.gif

Nicest hotel I ever stayed in The Dam was the Tulip Inn near Leidseplein. I've been to Amsterdam almost annually for the past 13 years. Unfortunately stayed in many kips. The Tulip Inn was really pleasant and I would defintely return.

It's just up the road from VondelPark.

I stayed in one nicer but it was outrageously expensive and was bed only, total rip off so won't mention that one.

Not a hotel, but I highly recommend www.amsterdamescape.com

That is a very good idea, and something I keeping meaning to do. For some reason, whenever I book a trip I forget about apartments.

That's ridiculously expensive given that you can get a double room or twin room in a decent hostel [most of those outside of the Centraal area of the city are good] for roughly €50 quid.

I stayed in a hotel [a B&B by Irish standarda] on Warmoesstraat back in 2008 and it was 100e for a twin room for the night - great location and it was ran by a pub / coffeeshop down below so we got discounts on the weed when we showed our keys.

    Here's the link:

    http://www.greenhouse-effect.nl/hotel.html

you can view the photos of each of the rooms on that link.
Also - there's a continental breakfast for free.

Plus the coffeeshop is my favourite in Amsterdam - the only coffeeshop which plays mainly electronic music that I've came across.

The Winston is a great hostel, clean friendly and also cheap food and drink.
