i got a ps3 slim a couple of days ago, and had a look at the leaflet for their console insurance

it seems basically to be 2 years of cover (1 really since u have the 1st yr manufacturer warranty anaway)

the 2nd year covers breakdowns of the console and accidental damage, its either repair or replace, by 'their' authorised repair company

does anyone have any experience of this?

    is it worth the 29.99?

    bump!!
Was also thinking about this insurance and would like to get opinions on whether or not it's worth the €30!

can't you wait a year, does it have to be taken out at the start or within Sony warranty.

pretty sure it's within 28-30 days of buying the console. seems like less hassle then going through sony if you console gets borked...for €30 like.

The only thing that seems good is that it's accidental damage as well. So your controllers are covered if they get broken.

Irish law gives you more than two years cover for technical faults, though you'll have to fight for it with GAME and other shops.

yeah...but have a look at the small claims court ps3 thread, the amount of grief you would have to go through and all that red tape to make sony repair a console that is 1+ year, there is a guy doing it at the moment and he still hasnt got any joy

has anyone here taken this gamecare cover?

That SCC thread you mentioned deals with PS3 phat.
Too soon in the slims life to be going down the SCC route. Slims are still in the warranty stage now.
€30 is not much when you consider your spending ~€300 on a console.

thats what im thinking aswell, 30e seems like a good investment

im just wondering what they constitute accidental damage, their is a series of things not covered in the terms

and if its a repairable problem, how well would they repair it in case of a reoccurance or a fault

im pretty sure if they repair or replace your console, thats it its game over as regards to ur extended warrenty

Its 35 for the 120 gig and 45 for the 250 gig.

I believe it's unlimited repairs up until the value of the machine. You only get one console replacement though.

    Howdy folks.

Just thought I'd chime in since I've a lot of, lets say "first hand" experience with the console insurance mentioned above. Firstly, I'll point out that it costs €40 for a 120gb slim PS3, and you can only pick it up within a month of buying the console. The two year cover starts from the date you buy the PS3, even if you buy the insurance a week after you get your console.

Overall so far there have been very few hitches with the system. If anyone has any problems with their consoles, they seem to be sorted out very quickly. If you've any problem within the first year, the company will just replace your console. If you need to claim after the first year - you've to work through the insurance company.
Make sure to read the fine print. If your second hand console breaks down in year two, the insurance company aren't obliged to replace your console with another one (this would mainly apply to a discontinued model eg. 40gb PS3). Instead, they can just reimburse you with the current value of your console.

To sum it all up, I'd strongly advise anyone spending over €200 on a console to fork out the extra bucks on the cover. I bought my 40gb PS3 before the cover was introduced and I'm convinced my console is on it's last legs. If it goes, there's no way I can afford to shell out for a new slim PS3. €40 for the peace of mind seems well worth it to me.

Whatever happens to your console, just tell the insurance company it was an accident. Then you're covered.
