I saw it today on a web on my tomatoe plant. It was smaller than a grain of rice, black with yellow and orange on it. Sound familiar? I hope it does a good job on the bugs on my tomatoes! (Money Maker variety)

It could be a young garden spider. They appear everywhere at this time of year, and they have many variations in their colours. Could you describe any pattern in the colours?

Anyway, if it is, garden spiders catch lots of bugs from what I've seen, though they can grow quite large. Don't be alarmed if this one does, they're harmless.

Also, the web is a good clue. Garden spiders are orb weavers.
