Driving moving van to Denmark?

I posted a thread the other day about driving to Denmark and got some good advice regarding taking the ferries versus driving through the continent.
The next question that I have is regarding advice on renting/buying (for short term use) a van from Dublin to Copenhagen (and back if necessary.) Does anyone have advice/experience with a similar move? I think that we would need a van the size of a Luton van so I would still be able to use my normal driver's license. I have experience driving similar moving vans in Dublin a few times, but am not sure if rental agencies will allow me to drive to Denmark when renting with them.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Mods please post to another forum if necessary.

My friend did something like that, he bought a old van and was planning to drive it to Finland. A major problem was that it was almost impossible to get the van insured because it was a commercial, eventually he got a insurance from Finnish company to this Irish van.

I also cannot see why someone would like to rent a van for you to drive it to DK, since the risks are really high for rental company, so I quess you have to buy the van.

You might find rental companies in Denmark to be more open-minded when it comes to hiring vehicles and taking them abroad, although that would mean getting to Denmark by other means first, i.e. flying, unless you know someone in Denmark who could hire a van there and drive it over here first.

Small Box Truck - Mitsubishi Canter - http://www.avisvans.ie/index.php/fleet sounds like what you need, and I'm sure it's possible to take them to foreign lands - as long as you bring them back or pay a huuuuuuge 1 way charge.

Not sure how the insurance works but call the main Dublin office on 1890 75 85 95 and talk to Ed or Brendan.

It would work out far cheaper to get all the stuff sent in a 40 foot shipping container and you wouldnt have to worry about the time and expense in returning the rental van.

I rented a van afew years ago from scotland to here when i moved over. Although very few where keen on letting it go out of the country the ones that did insisted on 5star AA insurance which would cover the van incase of breakdown.

Thanks for the tip. I've been talking to Ed about trucks and he's going to get me a quote.

All of the firms that I have talked to so far have been requiring this 5 star AA insurance as well so I guess that we'll need to build that into the price too.

I have been looking into container shipping as well-just comparing it against driving a moving now really. The container shipping prices up front are much higher, but in the end they just might be the way to go with all of the fuss/logistics required with the rental vans.
