    Hi guys,
Hope this is in the right forum (mods feel free to move if it's not). Wanted to get something for my 70 year old mother so she can use email and internet at home (will change her over to wi-fi set up). She's actually quite good with mobile phones etc and I don't want to go down the PC/Mac/laptop route and the associated hassles. Was considering getting her the iPod Touch but someone suggested the DSi XL might be a better option? Myself and the brothers all have iPhones so we can give her a quick crash course, but just wondering if the DSi XL has many (or any) advantages (bigger screen etc).
    Thanks for any help.;)

I'd imagine you'd want to pick up a netbook or cheap laptop if it's the Internet she's after.
There are people a quarter of her age who just don't like touchscreens. Having the net on a small screen is great on the go but you wouldn't want a small screen as your primary surfer.

I would say if the device you want is primarily for email and browsing, DON'T go for the DSi - it's great for its AAA-games, and I guess it's 2 screens together give you technically more screen real estate than the iPod touch/iPhone, but it's browser is pretty horrible - slow and unresponsive and not that intuitive to use. Plus there's no dedicated email app, though I suppose you can still use the browser.
An Apple product or something like it is what you want in this situation - would the budget stretch to 500 euro? The iPad should be here in just a few weeks now and it kicks the iPhone's ass at least when it comes to browsing and mailing...

    Thanks for the replies guys.
Take your point about the DSi. Think it's Apple all the way.
I would love to buy her the iPad, but I think if I get her the iPod Touch and she likes it I could look at getting her one for Xmas. Her birthday is this weekend so can't really wait for the iPad either.... plus if I got my hands on one it may not leave my house!

has she ever used any of the iphones that you have and if so how did she get on with it especially for the screen size.

No she's never used one, but she's actually quite ok with mobile phones in general. She has good eyesight too! Think I'll go the Ipod Touch route. Thanks for the replies.
