So I've been tasked with coming up with a girl's holiday for my sister, niece & myself...

We've done NYC but the girls want America

Can anyone recommend other U.S. cities & the best shopping spots?

    Thank you

Chicago - plenty of high end fashion shops and department stores/outlet shops (in the city centre - think Century 21 type stores).

    www.choosechicago.com/shopping

It is also a compact city, easy to get around and has a direct flight with Aer Lingus.

And when you are bored with shopping there's Navy Pier for entertainment - high speed boat ride out into the Bay is great or just have a cocktail/meal at the top of Hancock Tower.

    Lovely city for a break

If you want one hell of a holiday (in addition to shopping until you drop!) visit Las Vegas!

Every hotel/casino has a huge shopping mall in it, the most famous probably being the Forum Shops in Caesars Palace.

There is also a huge Outlet Mall at the end of Las Vegas Boulevard, and the Fashion Show Mall towards the opposite end.

Plus, it's Las Vegas and it's just magic!!!

I went on a shopping holiday to Las Vegas and would highly recommend it. Lots of shopping centres and great attractions in the city other than shopping too!

I've been to Philly a few times and I loved it. I raided a load of shops that are like TK Maxx here. I got a load of bargains, the euro was pretty decent to the dollar at the time I remember!

The king of Prussia mall blows my mind every time I got there! :) I'd love to try out Vegas and NY for shopping! Downtown Philly is pretty cool and chilled out for thrift shopping and the likes (American thrift stores kick ultimate ass!!)

I've been to a lot of US cities and Vegas is definitely my favourite place to shop. It's got everything you want from high-end designers, mid-price shops and outlet malls. It's got all the major brands/department stores etc.

I'm actually living here now so if you want some advice on best places to go let me know.

Check out the Chelsea Premium Outlets website - they have a lot of outlet centres around the states.

If you do plan on visiting any of the outlets, make sure to join the VIP club and print out the vouchers for that centre.

oh sanfrancisco!!! I have been once and new york loadsa times and i lvoed san francisco. its just soo chilled and loads to go. their shopping area is all fairly close together with the usual shops that you would find in nyc but there are so many things to do and see such as haight and ashbury (for amazing vintage shops), alcatraz, lombard street.. its amazing

Plus one on Vegas was there this time last year and have to say preferred the shopping over New York anyday. Great value in the outlet stores and all on one strip really. Caesars is fantastic and no queues for Abercrombie etc like in NYC.

    One word - VEGAS.

No other place in the entire world can beat it for shopping - it's got everything there and all the shops under one roof in Caesars Forum Shops, oh it's heaven there!

I have to - 1 on las vegas.
I'm a shopaholic but just found that there were waaaaay too many fun things to do in vegas to waste my time shopping!
However there are great shops, but depends on whether or not you can drag yourself away from the blackjack table :o

Best holiday destination ever though :D

I love Boston - I've been there loads of times and it's a much smaller, friendlier city than NY. I've been to a lot of places in the US and Boston is one that I'd go back to in a flash. If you're planning on doing a lot of shopping you should check out which states have a tax on clothes - you can end up paying a lot more for the same item in a shop in one state than another. The outlets at Wrentham outside Boston are very good - I love the 9 West and Gap shops there.

Las Vegas is pretty good for shopping, a couple of the big hotels (Planet Hollywood and Caesars Palace) have huge shopping malls in them. All the big hotels have some sort of shopping areas and some of them (Paris and Bellagio spring to mind) have some lovely unusual shops that you might find some hidden gems. There is also an outlet mall not far from the strip, Premium Outlets, there are some amazing bargains to be had. What age is your niece? If she is under 21, Vegas may not be a good idea for her. The casino's are incredibly strict about not letting kids in. You can walk through the casino to get to your room or restaurant, but kids are literally not allowed stop in the casino, even if they are nowhere near a machine.

If your neice is younger, would you consider Orlando? There are two outlet malls there, along with a couple of huge regular malls. You could also throw in a theme park or two to break up the shopping.

I was in Las Vegas over two years ago and went to the premium outlet mall twice. Great deals there. Loads of malls like Caesar's Forum. I am going back again in December. Great deals to be had too as there are flight sales at the moment with BA. Got 5 nights there in Bellagion about 3-400 euro cheaper than staying in a 2 star in New York.
Loads to do there besides shpping too. Gambling, Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Shows, Shows, Shows, Gambling..... You could spend a day or two walking in and out of all the hotels. Recommend for sure.

Off to Vegas in a few weeks, can't frigging wait!! My friends are telling to bring a few bits to wear and to buy everything else over there, I'm a bit worried though, I'd be larger than my friends size 16-18 (uk size) and \i'm afraid that when I get over there I'll be stuck for clothes cos they may not cater for my size. Anyone any insite into this??

You are a skinny minnie by US standards, so I can't see you having any problem! Just bear in mind that it will be incredibly hot in Vegas in the next few weeks, so if you aren't bringing clothes to wear, then you will have to buy a lot of very light stuff to wear when you are there. I think this is a bit of a waste as we get so little oppurtunity to wear light clothes at home!

If it were me, I would stock up on t-shirts in shorts in Penny's for wearing in Vegas and spend your shopping time stocking up your Autumn/Winter wardrobe. I was in Vegas in August 2 years ago and they were just getting their gorgeous autumn stuff into the shops. Much more sensible buy than summery stuff IMO.

I find US shopping is pretty similar to over here, as in some shops won't do those sizes but some will. It depends on how old you are, the shops aimed at teenagers are more likely to only have small sizes (juniors). You can always have a look on some of the shops' websites to scope things out.

I wouldn't bother buying too much out there to actually wear there unless you need a lot of summer clothes as it'll be roasting!

    Have a nice time!
