Why can't Irish TV channels go on Freesat? RTE Radio is there.

I was looking at the list of TV and radio channels on Freesat and noticed RTE Radio channels is on there. Why can't the Irish TV channels go on freesat?

It is already broadcasting over Ireland, so why can't they switch over the free to air system to that system and meet the digital deadline without having to deal with the digital broadcast that they cannot seem to get up and running.

There would be a big issue with rights I'd imagine if RTE were broadcasting unencrypted to the UK and further afield.

Sky have the rights to RTE on Satellite and they only show it in Ireland, from what I know Sky pay the upload cost and running cost for the satellite feed so there is zero cost for RTE.

RTE in it's current form can't go free to air on satellite because viewers in the UK would receive it too and RTE would then have to increase the royalties paid to program makers due to the increase in potential audience. RTE international showing RTE/Irish made program with no royalty issues was due to launch as free to air satellite but was scrapped before it ever got of the ground due to budget cuts I believe.

    Loads of threads before.

    Basically not remotely possible.

Even RTE made/commissioned programs they'd have to pay x4 to composers, writers, actors, production company etc.
A lot of the higher profile staff are stupidly overpaid Contract and would be paid even more.

Even an RTE International Channel is hardly feasible with the hole RTE have dug themselves.
