Lads ive finally given into nagging and im getting married next year, im going to Hong kong as part of my hunnymoon, I'm stay in the Mangkok area. From a little research I've found an airsoft shopping district(oh baby). Where they openly sell airsoft products from pistols to mini guns........the idea of this is making marrage whorthwhile........Heres the questions is there anybody that has been to these stores? I thought it was illegal over there? Are they any good? Whats the prices like? or if anyone can offer any first hand experience it would be great...Cheers Dirtdiver

Heres a guide posted on Arnies Airsoft forum from a guy who lives in Hong Kong, you will need to register an account to view it.

    They're legal in Hong Kong.

You might already have found it since you've done some research, but if not there's a great thread over on Arnies airsoft forums about this. I'd root it out fooutou, but I'm using an iPhone at the moment and it's a pain in the rear to do. A quick search on arnies will find it fairly handily though - it's well worth a read if you haven't already.

Edit: ha, beaten to it :)

Just wait not until people start asking you to bring stuff back for them!

Be carefull what you do buy, as you will presumably have to get it through a few airports and airlines before you get home, and their rules may not be the same.

    Or mail it to yourself.

Most shops will offer to ship them on your behalf, do this if possible as going to the couriers yourself can be a major PITA. As others have said, avoid the grief of using airlines, this is because every airline and airport has its own policies on RIF's, these policies include stop-overs in airports (Heathrow for example).

I decided to post the airsoft items that I'd bought in Mongkok and Wan Chai only to get refused by TNT, I then decided to use EMS Speedpost to send airsoft back over here (this is back when they allowed Airsoft replica's) only to have one of my two packages (containing some rare Classic Airsoft items) get lost in the system

Out of interest, how does the whole import system work if you pay cash for something and post it to yourself? Can you still get stung for taxes?

I suppose if you did pack it yourself you could write a letter to yourself making it look like a gift and have no invoice etc..

Importing is buying something out of the country, and then bringing it into the country. So yes, you are still liable for tax. If you brought it back on the plane, you'd still be liable for tax. It doesn't mean that you'll definitely 100% have to pay, but you will be liable
