    Hi..
I had a bottom lower left wisdom tooth removed last monday (21/6/10) It has given me little or no trouble regarding pain until tonight it is almost 3am and the pain on a level of 1-10 is def nearing a 50. I do have stiches in it and I'm wondering is this them dissolving I've no idea if I'll even get a reply this late at night but anything that could help would be great. I've taken 500g paracetemol and am waiting another hour so I can take an ibuprofen. thanks.

it's surprising to hear you are having such bad pain starting now 8 days after the extraction. the pain may be from another tooth nearby. Go see your dentist today.

Hey, thanks for replying :) I rang the hospital where it was removed this morning and the dental dept is closed on a tues  So I rang my own doctor. According to him I have inflammation in and around my bone membrane :(. I'm on two antibiotics one for 3 days and one for 5days.. The doctor said one was for where oxygen couldn't reach deep down and one was for where oxygen could reach . The only thing that relieves the pain is for me to rub or scratch my cheek. Its all very strange because I always thought an itch was a sign that everything was going ok . Anyway, for now it seems to b under control. Thanks for the replies :D

your doctor put it in the most layman terms possible.

the antibiotic for where the oxygen won't reach is to fight anaerobic bacteria, most likely metronidazole, the other is probably amoxycillin.
you probably should've tried your original dentist and not the dept in the hospital (unless it was the dental hospital in cork or dublin).
as long as everything is under control then you should be fine.

I got the tooth out in Dublin. Yeah he put me on Distaclor and Flagyl. I'm allergic to penicillin so that ruled out the amoxycillin for me  Thanks for explaining that a bit better :o Hopefully the antibiotics will do the trick but I have a follow up app next tues in the Dublin Dental Hospital so at least they'll get to see it then :) Thanks for the reply :D
