Status bar on Xperia

I gave my SE Xperia to a friend so they could make their mind up between it and a HTC only for them to hide the status bar on the Xperia. I've been looking through the settings menu and can't figure out how to get the status bar to display again. Anyone know how to re-display the status bar?
