    1.3 m wide, 2.4 m long. 100 km comes in..... 16.2 seconds(forever).

could we really see something similar on the roads in few years?

    more pics and specs here.

The McLaren F1's natural successor by the looks of things.

Driver sits in the middle which is cool!

    Other than that though...

Wonder how much it will cost? The intention must be to sell the idea to developing nations, can't see it succeeding in great numbers in the West.

Guess it all depends on the production numbers. If priced right it could be a perfect second car in the family.

The day I see something like that driving around town or in fact anywhere near me, is the day a car related tear will fall from my eye.

I refuse to buy a diesel, the day I buy a car that looks like it used for transporting Gold around Fort Knox will be a cold day in hell!

I'd still sooner driver this that the T27 EV version. And I think the reall innovation here is the iStream production method.

Anyone up for a single make race series?

Jaysus no it's not a diesel! Well it could be, but I'm saying I won't ever buy a diesel, not to mind a shoe box with a battery in it!

Average fuel consumption is just 3.83 l/100 km.

so for 20 quid you'ld get about 400km. not bad at all.
and the cockpit looks cool, quite racy!

It looks fugly as hell tbh. I wonder if it's acceleration should be measured from 0-60km/h rather than 100km/h? Since this thing will probably rarely drive at that speed. I know 0-100 is the standard test, but it would be interesting none the less.

Great concept, hope it makes it to production.

Lets be honest if Gordon Murray is behind it, it isn't going to be a crock of sh!t. Rarely does a designer put so much work into every aspect of his car design, the F1 being a perfect example. I have read a number of interviews with him over the years, he is convinced that small is the future and this is why he spent so much time designing this. He has a good interview about this carin the July edition of EVO magazine (the McLaren F1 special).

It isn't to everybodies taste but it will sell very well in countries where car size is not an issue such as Italy. My only surprise is what seems to be a higher fuel consumption than what I would have expected.
But it should be a great city car.

The BMW Clever, I would have picked the Carver but they are gone now.

I, for one, am quite excited by this car.
    Daily Mail article
3-seater, can fit 3 into a single parking space (2 in a garage).
Small & light. Easy to fix.

    Regarding the mpg:
And so, instead of going down a high-tech blind alley, the T25 is powered by a tiny (660cc, 51bhp and three-cylinder) conventional petrol engine donated by Mitsubishi - though an electric version, the T27, is also being built.

'We can already get 80mpg out of it,' says Murray. 'Probably more after more work on the engine.'
Projected cost: £6000 incl. tax in the UK, release date 2012 (est.)

Given the proportions of the thing, I'd be too scared to go anywhere near 100kph. Looks to me like the centre-of-gravity vs track width is significantly worse than the early SUVs that rolled over at the drop of a hat?

Or you could have a picanto/myvi for a grand more, or a panda for 1.5k more.

Stick a Corolla badge on it and you'd see it with taxi plates all over Dublin :P

In fairness, for commuting within 50kph zones - I'd drive one (and keep a real car for the weekend). Beats public transport - shrieking teenagers, smelly weirdos etc etc.

Ireland - "surprisingly nippy" compared to 1.4 Focus/Corolla/golf

    Its going to tip over!!!

I don't get this trend of car designs becoming taller and narrower.
Like what's wrong with having a low and a little wide car...? It'll have a better weight distribution and COG which should make it handle better. Like my Puma is not very tall and its not narrow either (its got a massive boot) and yet it feels (and is) small and nimble enough to drive easily in Dublin city center. I don't get it why anyone would need anything smaller, narrower and taller...

    Old link:
Autocar: Steve Cropley -- Why Gordon Murray must be taken seriously
Around the corners and over the bumps of Dunsfold, the car WAS brilliant. For handling, ride, performance feel, control sensitivity and comfort – plus the simple, vital pleasure of driving – it completely demolished the already-in-production Mitsubishi i and Smart ForTwo, which Murray’s men had thoughtfully brought along for comparison purposes.

Any of you nay-sayers thinking Gordon Murray, a (former) professional SPORTS/RACING CAR DESIGNER, would create a car that would "tip over", are quite frankly idiots.

I kinda like it, especially the interior. But I'm 6'3 so I reckon I'd be very uncomfortable in it.

edit: i think it's 0-60 time should be the same as a Focus 1.6. It has a similar, if not a bit better, power to weight ratio.

It looks gash and its not cheap by any means.

Unless you live in a city and thats all the driving you ever do why would you bother?

Anyway, look at Gordon in the above photo he looks like he has been let out for the day. Anyone told him yet the car isnt actually moving? He looks like he's overtaking :P

They've had the Canta and other ****b*xes here for ages:

Classified as a moped so it can drive in the Bicycle lane, feck all to tax as well, 100 quid a year or something.

Saw one once, was afraid to laugh too much at it in case it was some sort of invalid carriage. I still reckon Gordon Murray's looks alright (in a quirky way) but I like anything in matt black.

Somehow I have a feeling withthis one... No one likes it, but everyone will be driving it, as it has few Points, that average Irishman loves.
    1. Cheap and has no spec on it all, will be even easier to sell it here.
    2. Cheap tax and insurance.
    3. Boring
    4. Boy racers can do feck all to it, as it looks like a brick allready...

I was thinking of safety features in this thing lads. Ireland allways on about saving more poeple on roads, but in my opinion, that such small things are like death traps... There was a good example of fiat500 vs Q7? Even with all this 5 star bullcrap, small car stays a small.

Would love to see a Morris Minor vs a Q7, would cut through the Q7 like butter i'd say.

Granted everyone in the Minor would be dead .. but still like.

For a project that has been in gestation for so long I have to say so far its a bit of a PR joke. Despite the credentials of those involved the whole project looks something lashed together in a shed, it should have been presented in a much more polished and convincing way. I would like to connect with this concept but they have done little to convince me of its worth.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,824 ✭✭✭✭K.O.Kiki

See, I'm thinking that *IF* this thing takes off, maybe some manufacturer will have the balls to make a tiny sporty car like the Messerschmidt again.
The way I see it though, the T25 looks to me like a modern take on something like the Mini (the original one) -- small car, good driving dynamics, cheap.

Re: the Canta above: good idea, terrible execution.

    Also surprised no-one posted this:
    gordon-murray-t25-city-car-interior-.jpg

    *edit*
Video on BBC site, shows the cockpit door opening.

Also anyone who thinks the Audi Q7 should be allowed on the road: can you please move to another country? Thanks.

If someone could re-invent the classic mini (or FIAT 500) as an electric vehicle for a good price I'd definitely buy it. I would only use it for nipping around urban areas, so as long as it kept the rain off I'd be happy - ie they can make the panels from fibreglass Trabant style if they want. I would agree that driving one of these outside of a 50k zone would be dangerous (but you'd have a real car for that wouldn't you?), and I would agree that an Audi Q7 and a fibreglass panelled EV should not be on the same roads - Q7s have no place on city streets.

Edit - regarding the "DANGER" of driving one of these things - I don't see too many cyclists dressed up as robocop around the streets, how much more dangerous would it be to use one of these in built up areas?
