Copyright is life plus fifty (apt for this forum) at minimum, and as far as I know George is still knocking around.

Apparently it is out of copyright, some annoying little loophole that did Romero out of a lot of money :pac:

By George, I stand corrected! Its interesting to ponder whether or not the zombie genre would have really taken off if one of the first iconic movies had been copyright protected.

Some films end up out of copywrite for silly reasons including forgetting the Copywrite symbol in the credits believe it or not.

That's some joke considering Romero ripped off the Vincent Price movie Last man on earth :D:P

Which FYI also has lapsed copyright and is freely available lol. There are loads of these types of movies out there, A Boy and his Dog (depending on the version), Plan Nine from Outer Space and my personal favorite Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. Most are complete dross but there are some gems hidden amongst the turds. :)

    Some useful websites:

NOTE: You best check yourself whether a film has copyright just to be on the safe side

Also public domain is a Japanese movie called Day of the Resurrection, released in the West under the title Virus(1980):

Just got through watching it and its pretty decent, not a zombie movie as such but more a pandemic movie. Some parts are in Japanese (without subtitles) but much of it is in English. Considering its free you cant really go far wrong

Just watched the English version there, not a bad flick at all. Decent cast to boot.

BBC's Survivors is another good pandemic story.
