Put my passport through the washing machine

Not sure if this is the correct place to put this but can't see anywhere better suited. Came home from a trip abroad a while ago and promptly put the passport through the washer. Stupidity at it's finest really.

The passport page itself is pretty much fine, (the thing is a bit battered as its 8 years old anyway) and I've lost a good few of my stamps. The passport is a bit of a xylophone in general now, but as far as I can tell all the necessary information is still intact.

Does anyone know if it's still OK to use this, or should I apply for a new passport? Probably heading away in a month or so again, don't even know if I'll have a new passport back in time or if I'll have to wait three years to get one back.

    Cheers.

Ive done that before with my US passport. They very reluctantly let it slide and let me through and told me to get a new one. However that was several years ago, they may have tightened up a bit.

If I were to hazard a guess, Irish pasport control would let it slide. But there is no way of telling what other passport authorties would do.

This happened me several years ago and I still use it today. I've flown to Spain about 10 times or so and other countries in Europe with no trouble.

Just get one of those covers for it and it should be ok.

Because of the delays in passport renewals right now, you can apply for a new one using a photo copy of your details page. This way, you can keep your old passport while you are waiting for the new one. I would say that is your safest bet - apply for a new one ASAP just to be on the safe side. And in case it does not arrive in time, use your old one to travel.

I flushed mine down a toilet. Once it had stopped swirling I picked it out and continued to use it (washed and dried it first). Mine somehow wasn't too bad and I'm still using it 3 years later.

It depends where you're going. I wouldn't go to the US with mine. But the places are fine. Especially EU counties where you only need to flash the photo page, and don't need a stamp.
