Right I know this thread has been posted before, but everytime it comes up we get conflicting answers.

Can we clearly say if it can or can't be jailbroken?

Yes, but it depends on the model of the phone. I have an iPhone 3G running iOS 4.0, but I believe its not recommended for 3Gs

Yes, it has been jailbroken if you have

and iphone, iphone 3g, iphone 3gs with old bootrom.

It needs to have been jailbroken before without spirit.

My 3G had 5.12.01 and wasn't jailbroken with Spirit, it was Pwnage. Jailbroke 4 with Redsn0w.

I think thats the problem - there are so many combinations of phone, Bootrom, Firmware etc.
