What would be better to keep searching for a job which is pretty fruitless atm for me anyway,

or to get working for a charity for awhile (something I wanted to do for awhile but not got the time)

Would this be better for me overall in my job hunt (taking a break and getting some actual work) or would it hinder me getting a job as I might not be looking as hard to find one and miss a perfect job.

Anyone else do this?
