In Ireland we will all be recieving mpeg4 next year.
I have free to air dish at the moment, I was wondering will the dish and feed I have at the moment be able to pick up the Irish digital mpeg4 channels? Which would mean all i have to do is find a set top box or tv that can handle mpeg4 and fta.
Or will there be a seperate feed for the MPEG4?

Also i would i though i would ask another question without creating a special thread, im currently looking at new tvs, and i noticed some tvs have a HD Freeview tuner, would this be any good for me ?, should i be looking for a freesat tuner, , what i really want is a FTA, but I havent seen any tvs with fta, does fta come with freesat ?

Help would be much obliged Thanks.

No . Irish Digital mpeg4 is terrestrial :- you need an aerial to receive it (and set top box, or tv with decoder built in)

    have a look at here

Mpeg4 is a video compression standard and not a broadcasting standard.

Freeview= Free Terrestrial service based in the UK with 7 day program guide, requires an aerial and a suitable receiver. It can be received in Ireland but only along part of the east coast and I think around the border. SD equipment is MPEG2 based, HD equipment can handle MPEG4 along with MPEG2.

Saorview= Free Terrestrial service based in the Republic of Ireland with 7 day program guide, required an Aerial and a suitable receiver. Mgeg4 based equipment.

Freesat= Free Satellite service based in the UK with 7 day program guide, required a Satellite dish and a suitable receiver

The Irish Terrestrial Service called "Saorview" due to launch in October will require a set top box or a TV that can receive a terrestrial signal via an Aerial. Depending on your location you may only need a set of "Rabbit Ears" to receive it. There are no Official Saorview TV's or set top box available yet, they will carry the Saorview logo. Many people including myself receive the current terrestrial tests using receivers that can decode the MPEG4 video compression, in theory these receivers should work with the official service when launched. UK Freeview HD certified equipment should be OK to receive the Irish service but without official Saorview certification there is a risk attached to buying such equipment.

Regarding a new TV there are some models on the market with both Freesat-HD and Freeview-HD tuners on them, I think they are discussed in last few pages on the link John Mac provided.
