I have an old Nuvi 205w with 2008 maps.
I got a hold of another garmin with a broken screen with 2010 europe maps.
I can still access the memory via usb cable.

The maps img file for 2010 is 1.7GB but the internal memory on the 205w is only 1gb.

Is there anyway to split up the img file and only put on ireland and uk and not put on any of the other europe maps.

Nevermind. I managed to do it.

I used GMAPTOOL to split the img file into all the individual img files for each area. I was then able to use the same tool to select the maps i wanted an recombine them into a single gmapsupp.img file and copy it across to the gps.
